About The Position

This role involves performing routine patient testing in the Molecular Pathology and/or Immunology laboratories. The technician will ensure adequate supplies and reagents, perform routine maintenance of instrumentation and equipment, and adhere to quality assurance guidelines. A thorough understanding of CAP accreditation requirements is necessary. The position also includes performing research and development projects, troubleshooting PCR assays, and potentially designing and validating clinical molecular assays. Responsibilities extend to developing and revising policies and procedures, maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (JCAHO, HIPAA), and assisting with equipment maintenance and inventory management. The role requires keeping the work environment organized and troubleshooting erroneous results or equipment problems. Exemplary performance as a Tech II and meeting the education and experience requirements of a Tech III are expected.

Requirements

  • Tech II: Associate's degree in related field (MLT) OR Bachelor's degree in related field (MLS, Bio, or Chem)
  • Tech II: 0+ years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Tech II: May require clinical license, certification/training
  • Tech III: Bachelor's degree in a related field (MLS, Bio, or Chem)
  • Tech III: 4+ years of work experience in a related job discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Tech III: Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) OR Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) with ASCP

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in molecular testing (PCR, NGS, sequencing) strongly preferred
  • Experience in molecular infectious disease testing (PCR, qPCR) and/or molecular oncology testing (NGS/sequencing)

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine patient testing for the Molecular Pathology and/or Immunology laboratories.
  • Ensure adequate laboratory supplies and reagents and alert responsible parties when inventory is low.
  • Perform routine maintenance of instrumentation and equipment and alert responsible parties of discrepancies.
  • Adhere to quality assurance guidelines and CAP accreditation requirements.
  • Perform research, development, and other outside projects as directed.
  • Troubleshoot PCR assays.
  • Design and/or validate clinical molecular assays.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and/or revision of policies, procedures, and/or manuals.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (JCAHO, HIPAA, accreditation standards).
  • Design and/or implement programs, policies, and/or procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Track laws and regulations that might affect policies and procedures.
  • Prepare compliance reports and communicate results as necessary.
  • Assist with maintenance of various pieces of equipment.
  • Help maintain/order inventory.
  • Keep work environment well-organized.
  • Troubleshoot and/or correct erroneous results or problems with equipment.
  • Provide appropriate safety/quality monitoring checks and document as assigned.
  • Exemplary performance as a Tech II and meet the education and experience requirements of a Tech III.
