About The Position

The Molecular Genetics Technologist II performs routine, moderate-complexity, and high-complexity molecular laboratory testing under general supervision to support the diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases. This role demonstrates proficiency, accuracy, and increasing independence while ensuring compliance with laboratory quality, safety, and regulatory standards. The Technologist II also supports workflow continuity, assists with troubleshooting, and provides guidance to junior staff as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or higher in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related chemical, physical, or biological science field from an accredited institution required.
  • Bachelor’s degree with >1 year of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 0–1 year of relevant experience.
  • Experience in regulated clinical laboratory testing environments
  • Working knowledge of laboratory instrumentation, quality control (QC), and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all responsibilities of Technologist I.
  • Independently perform routine and moderate-complexity testing in accordance with SOPs.
  • Interpret instrument flags and alerts; perform initial troubleshooting and escalate complex issues as needed.
  • Prepare reagents, controls, and calibrators; monitor and support instrument performance.
  • Accurately document test results and activities in LIMS and laboratory records.
  • Perform and document quality control for assays, instruments, and reagents; verify QC acceptability prior to result release and take appropriate action for out-of-range results.
  • Perform and document routine equipment maintenance, calibration/function checks, and preventive maintenance per SOP; remove equipment from service and escalate when performance is out of specification.
  • Initiate and document corrective actions for QC failures, instrument malfunctions, specimen discrepancies, and other nonconformances.
  • Maintain compliance with laboratory safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in proficiency testing; document results and assist with investigations and corrective actions for unsatisfactory performance.
  • Train and support junior technologists in standard workflows and procedures.
  • Escalate unusual results, significant deviations, or complex issues to senior staff or supervisors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
