About The Position

The Molecular Genetics Technician is responsible for executing day to day genetic laboratory testing of patient samples within a high throughput diagnostic laboratory. This role involves following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform high complexity molecular genetics, operating automated laboratory systems, preparing and stocking reagents, performing reagent quality control, and analyzing genetic data. The technician will also aid in process and equipment troubleshooting, maintain detailed records, ensure a clean and organized work area, and participate in improving lab efficiency and quality. Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position, as is adherence to attendance-related policies and expectations. The role also includes equipment maintenance, cleaning, checking inventory of supplies, and laboratory procedures such as DNA extraction, manipulation of nucleic acids, and microarray beadchip processing. Employees are expected to conduct themselves in an ethical manner and hold each other accountable to the organization's values and standards, with processes in place to communicate with leadership and a commitment to integrity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a life or physical science field is required.
  • 3+ years of laboratory experience is required, preferably involving nucleic acid manipulation techniques
  • Laboratory skills, with experience setting up, running and reading lab tests and operating lab instruments.
  • General science background, including molecular/cyto genetics helpful.
  • Organized with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Positive, can-do attitude.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) as appropriate.
  • Personal computer skills, including strong typing ability and proficient use of Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform high complexity molecular genetics
  • Operate automated laboratory systems including Tecan Freedom Evo, Illumina iScan Autoloading System, and Integra Viaflow liquid handling systems.
  • Follow reagent recipes to prepare and stock reagents.
  • Perform reagent quality control.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to perform genetic data analysis and data quality review.
  • Aid in process and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Maintain detailed records, and clean and organized work area.
  • Carry out support activities, including maintaining supply inventory, recordkeeping,
  • Ensure documents are completed according to established SOPs.
  • Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation.
  • May participate in process improvement and research projects, and other duties as assigned.
  • Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Adherence to attendance-related policies and expectations is critical to this position.
  • Equipment maintenance, cleaning, and other related duties.
  • Check inventory of supplies, stock shelves and maintain order in stockroom.
  • Laboratory procedures including DNA extraction, manipulation of nucleic acids, and microarray beadchip processing.
  • Perform other duties as assigned
