About The Position
The Molecular Biologist will provide support services to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases within the National Institutes of Health. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide support for molecular/structural biology projects, as well as immunogen testing and analysis for an effective HIV vaccine and vaccines for other pathogens. 1 Prepare protein probes for B cell sorting and antibody isolation projects. 2 Documents research findings and maintains accurate logs and records of all experimental activities and outcomes. Perform B cell sorting using multicolor flow cytometry and single B cell sequencing to identify antibodies of interest. 3 Provide expression of viral glycoproteins, antibodies, immunogens and virus-like particles using mammalian expression systems; provide expression of immunogens in alternative expression systems. Provide DNA vector manipulation including expression vector design, DNA/protein sequence analysis, DNA recombination, mutagenesis and plasmid preparation. Provide biochemical analysis of proteins. Maintain and generate stable cell lines. Maintain tissue culture facility (maintenance of cell lines, cell culture mediums and supplies). Work products and documents related to expressing proteins from eukaryotic expression systems. Work products and documents related to maintaining tissue culture facility. Work products and documents related to providing support for molecular/structural biology projects including the design of an effective HIV vaccine; carry out B cell culture. Work products and documents related to providing analysis of proteins. Maintain tissue culture facility (maintenance of cell lines, cell culture mediums and supplies).
Requirements
- PhD in Molecular Biology or similar field
- Extensive experience with protein purification techniques
- Hand son experience with biophysical characterization of proteins
- Experience with biotinylating and fluorescent labeling of protein probes for B cell sorting projects.
- Experience with B cell isolation, FACS sorting, single B cell sequencing
- Experience working with mammalian cell culture for production of glycoproteins and antibodies
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field.
- Basic knowledge of computer science, systems analysis, MS Office, and systems programming.
