About The Position

The Mold Technician is responsible for performing routine preventive maintenance checks on all production plastic molding and blow molding tools and equipment. This role involves replacing or repairing parts, electrical components, and water lines as needed. The technician will diagnose and resolve mechanical issues by observing, dismantling, and inspecting devices and their parts. They will also be responsible for adjusting and installing parts, lubricating and cleaning equipment, and testing performance. Additionally, the technician will initiate purchase orders for necessary parts and machines, participate in an on-call program, and work additional hours as required. A strong emphasis is placed on following all safety rules and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to use a variety of common hand and power tools.
  • Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical properties.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Basic understanding of plastic / blow molding.
  • Ability to read hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Required to reach with hands and arms; stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
  • Required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Frequently lift and/or move more than 100 pounds assisted.
  • Close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance checks on all production plastic molding and blow molding tools and equipment.
  • Replace or repair parts on plastic / blow molding tools in alignment with established preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Replace electrical parts and equipment.
  • Replace water lines as needed.
  • Observe and listen to mechanical devices in operation to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repair or replace defective parts.
  • Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Lubricate and clean parts.
  • Start devices to test their performance.
  • Initiate purchase order for parts and machines.
  • Participate in on-call program and may be required to work additional hours as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Follow all safety rules and procedures and observe the operations to ensure a safe environment.
