About The Position

As a Mold Process Manager, you will be responsible for supporting all aspects of new injection mold builds, existing mold repair, and preventive maintenance. This role serves as a crucial technical resource for the operation of toolroom equipment used in fabricating and repairing tooling. The ideal candidate possesses the ability to machine precision mold components, understands their function within the molding process, and can independently diagnose molding defects. This includes identifying tooling failure modes and recommending effective repairs or design changes to prevent recurrence in future production runs.

Requirements

  • Journeyman toolmaker/Mold maker certification or equivalent combination of experience and technical schooling.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience troubleshooting injection mold defects and implementing corrective actions.
  • Experience with cavity/core welding, polishing, and critical-surface restoration.
  • Experience leading or coordinating toolroom work (prioritization, scheduling, and vendor coordination).
  • SolidWorks 3D modeling proficiency.
  • Experience with hot runner systems.
  • CNC programming using Mastercam (or equivalent).
  • 3-axis and 5-axis CNC milling capability.
  • CNC lathe setup, operation, and programming capability.
  • CNC wire EDM setup and programming capability.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate toolroom machinery to build, repair, and maintain injection molds, tooling, and fixtures.
  • Set up and operate machine tools (lathes, milling machines, grinders, etc.) and auxiliary equipment commonly found in a supporting toolroom.
  • Use machinist hand tools and precision measuring instruments to produce component parts and complete tools to specification.
  • Build tooling from prints or develop designs from available resources when prints are not provided.
  • Create and repair parts for complex automation, including machine-part/tooling design, fabrication, assembly, material selection, process routing, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
  • Plan construction procedures and methods, selecting proper materials and tooling approaches.
  • Interpret and create blueprints; maintain a working knowledge of CAD/CAM.
  • Disassemble and assemble molds; analyze and resolve common molding/tooling issues (flash, galling, venting, cooling concerns, etc.).
  • Perform mold repair on cavities, cores, and related components due to damage or wear, including cavity welding as needed.
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances; determine machining steps, materials, and parts required.
  • Assemble, repair, inspect, clean, and polish molds while protecting critical surfaces and dimensions.
  • Lay out, fabricate, and assemble dies, molds, and fixtures by analyzing blueprints, sketches, models, and engineering/shop specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving materials, work-holding arrangements, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production processes.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in accordance with site standards.
