As an ISO 13485 certified company, our focus is on the patient. This position is for a Mold Maker I, II, or III on the evening shift (2pm to 10:30pm) and is located onsite in Victor, NY. The role involves fabricating new plastic injection molds, performing mold modifications and repairs, and machining mold components to meet specifications. This may include programming and operating high-end CNC equipment from CAD models and documentation. The Mold Maker is expected to promote a positive, safe, and continuously improving work environment focused on organizational goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 2 years’ injection mold making experience required (Level I).
  • Minimum 4+ years’ injection mold making experience required (Level II).
  • Minimum 10+ years’ injection mold making experience required (Level III).
  • Working knowledge of shop math (e.g. Trigonometry, Geometry) (Level I).
  • Ability to read blueprints, work instructions, and inspection criteria (Level I).
  • Must be proficient in the use of standard inspection equipment (Level I).
  • Ability to hold tolerances down to +/- .0001” (Level II).
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings including GD&T (Level II).
  • Proficient with MasterCam Mill MultiAxis (Level III).
  • Capable of writing complex multi axis programs (Level III).
  • Understanding of tooling geometry and coatings for hardened materials for impression work along with types for soft materials e.g. cutting copper electrodes (Level III).
  • Excellent verbal communication skills (Level III).
  • Willingness to pursue and accept new manufacturing technologies (Level III).
  • Ability to stay focused and organized in a fluid environment (Level III).

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of trade school preferred (Level I).
  • CAD/CAM experience using MasterCAM, PowerMill, and Esprit software or equivalent preferred (Level II).
  • Experience working with close tolerances in a variety of metals preferred (Level II).
  • Experience with machining hardened steel including drilling, thread milling, and impression work preferred (Level II).
  • Completion of Trade school or N.Y.S. Certification Papers, Journeyman Papers preferred (Level II).
  • Advanced programming experience required, and Partmaker/Esprit preferred (Level III).
  • High feed machining / Makino high performance milling experience preferred (Level III).
  • Completion of Trade school or N.Y.S. Certification Papers, Journeyman Papers preferred (Level III).
  • Understanding of medical device manufacturing preferred (Level III).

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow standard safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Read and understand part drawings and basic GD&T.
  • Perform and document preventative maintenance on machines and molds.
  • Accurately use measurement tools (i.e., micrometers, calipers, indicator, scale).
  • Operate a variety of manual machines (e.g., Mills, cutoff saw, surface grinder, wet grinder).
  • Set-up machines, load programs, and set up work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Review complex drawings and GT&D.
  • Build new plastic injection molds and perform mold modifications and repairs.
  • Operate a variety of precision CNC equipment to fabricate complex mold components.
  • Program and troubleshoot complex tool paths using MasterCam.
  • Identify and troubleshoot tooling, equipment, and process issues (e.g., poor venting, flash).
  • Cross-train other employees as needed based upon knowledge and experience.
  • Work with Engineers, Tool Designers, etc. providing input to manufacturing capabilities on new and existing molds.
  • Work with CAD/CAM using MasterCAM and PowerMill, and Esprit software consistently with no supervision.
  • Program, set-up, run parts, inspect, and make adjustments to produce conforming parts consistently with no supervision.
  • Support Discovery and Engineering on rapid prototyping and urgent requests.
  • Write and implement Macros.
  • Train junior Machinist or Mold Maker Apprentices.
  • All other duties as assigned.
