About The Position

Performs in the role of assistant to the surgeon during operative and invasive procedures during the planned workday and on call. Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy and physiology. Under the direction of the surgeon, performs responsibilities that will include patient positioning, tissue handling, retracting, bleeding control including vessel clamping, cauterizing and tying, stapling, suturing and dressing application. Team member who provides direct and indirect patient care when caring for patients in the clinic setting. Provides care that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care; meets the communication needs of patient and family; provides care that reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations, under the supervision of a physician. Maintains regulatory requirements, policies, procedures and standards. Communicates with physicians and team members about patient's clinical condition, including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology.

Requirements

  • Graduate of surgical technologist program (or equivalency ex. military); or graduate of surgical first assistant program; or prior employment in the role of surgical scrub tech or surgical first assistant.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to perform effectively on teams.
  • Ability to perform effectively in stressful situations.
  • Current BLS certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one year employment in the role of scrub tech in an OR or surgical first assistant preferred.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
