About The Position
Derick Dermatology is hiring a Mohs MA to provide patient care under the direction of a surgical provider, assisting with Mohs procedures and excisions. The role includes patient intake, procedure set-up, surgical assistance, specimen processing, patient education, documentation, follow-up calls, and administrative duties. The position is primarily assigned to surgical shifts; general dermatology shifts may be offered when surgical shifts are unavailable. The employee must be flexible and willing to travel to other surgical locations when needed.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Friendly, polite, and professional demeanor.
- Clear communication skills.
- Proficiency with an electronic medical records (EMR) system; Nextech preferred.
- General dermatology medical assistant experience.
- Flexibility and willingness to travel to other surgical locations when needed.
Nice To Haves
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA).
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
- Ability to multitask and manage time wisely.
- Familiarity with Nextech EMR.
Responsibilities
- Room patients and verify patient information by interviewing patients, recording medical histories, and confirming the purpose of visits.
- Collect and process blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens for testing in compliance with CLIA regulations.
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, aftercare, and providers’ instructions to patients.
- Clean and sterilize medical instruments and use sterile technique when assembling surgical trays.
- Document patient visits and record appropriate charges for the billing department.
- Perform follow-up calls to patients after surgical procedures.
- Assist providers during examinations and treatment by handing them instruments or materials, giving injections, removing sutures, or performing phlebotomy.
- Clean examination rooms and other work areas and stock inventory as needed.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
