About The Position

This position is responsible for coordinating TIMET’s global deformation modeling efforts, driving effective use of simulation tools, participating with PCC businesses in a wide range of ICME activities and representing TIMET and PCC in external ICME and related computational simulation activities. The role involves the development and application of advanced computational methods relating to the manufacture of titanium and other non-ferrous metal products, including the development and assessment of microstructure prediction tools and ICME methodologies. The engineer will focus on predicting mechanical properties, validating simulation tools, and developing/managing internal databases for modeling. This role also includes representing TIMET in PCC’s modeling teams/forums and with software vendors, and providing computer modeling services as part of TIMET’s global modeling team, with a focus on advanced support to plant-based users. Metallurgical support to operations and customers is also required.

Requirements

  • Experience with numerical modeling methods and deformation modeling required (especially DEFORM)
  • Strong Mathematical skills
  • PhD in a metals or materials discipline with an emphasis on the development and/or use of computational method or a Masters degree in a metals or materials discipline with minimum 2 years of industrial experience in the area of deformation modeling
  • Experience with deformation modeling of aerospace materials, with titanium experience preferred
  • Ability and desire to work in a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with all organization levels
  • Sound grasp of the underlying physical principle relating to deformation
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Good verbal and writing skills, particularly technical reports and presentations
  • Analytical and creative thinking and ability to clearly communicate such ideas/concepts

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the principles of metallurgical phase transformations, grain growth etc would be a significant advantage
  • Experience in the use of software used to predict phase diagrams would be desirable
  • Working knowledge of titanium metallurgy (preferred, but not mandatory)
  • Metal working operations desirable
  • Commitment to “Supply Chain” Improvement and Customer Focus
  • The ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Industrial experience with application of modeling desirable but not mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Development and application of advanced computational methods relating to manufacture of titanium and other non ferrous metal products
  • Development/assessment of microstructure prediction tools
  • Development of ICME methodologies for use in TIMET’s businesses with specific focus on prediction of mechanical properties
  • Validation of simulation tools
  • Development and Management of TIMET’s internal databases relating to modeling
  • Representing TIMET in PCC’s modeling teams/forums
  • Representing TIMET with software vendors
  • Provision of computer modeling services as part of TIMET’s global modeling team with focus on providing advanced support to the plant based users of software
