About The Position

Sanofi’s Translational Disease Modeling (TDM) group is seeking a Modeling Scientist to support its R&D portfolio. The role focuses on mechanistic modeling and Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP), using modeling and simulation to improve understanding of disease mechanisms and guide therapeutic intervention strategies. The position is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The scientist will work as part of a team to develop multiscale computational models of complex diseases grounded in biological mechanisms. The role involves reviewing scientific literature, identifying and analyzing relevant preclinical and clinical data, contributing to the group’s computational infrastructure, evaluating model functionality and validity, interpreting simulations, and communicating results. The scientist will also document model development and data analysis and maintain QSP expertise through ongoing education and scientific participation.

Requirements

  • PhD or master's degree in systems pharmacology, biology, computational biology, systems biology, biomedical engineering, or a related field.
  • For PhD candidates: at least 1 year of hands-on experience generating disease, mechanistic/multiscale, or QSP models; academic research, internships, and postdoctoral experience are considered.
  • For master's candidates: at least 4 years of experience generating disease, mechanistic/multiscale, or QSP models in an industry or pharmaceutical setting.
  • Proficiency in mathematical modeling using differential equations and programming, demonstrated through hands-on experience with computational tools.

Nice To Haves

  • A track record of productivity in mechanistic or QSP modeling, as evidenced by publications.
  • Machine learning experience.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Julia, and R; MATLAB is preferred.
  • Knowledge of immuno-oncology or neuroscience.
  • Experience in drug discovery or development, especially in quantitative areas such as bioinformatics or pharmacometrics.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement multiscale computational models of complex diseases based on detailed biological mechanistic knowledge.
  • Survey scientific literature to understand critical physiological processes and identify suitable mechanistic elements, data, parameters, and assumptions.
  • Analyze internal preclinical and clinical data to inform modeling activities.
  • Contribute to the computational infrastructure of the Translational Disease Modeling group.
  • Assess the functionality, efficiency, and validity of new models.
  • Analyze simulation results and identify strategies to address model performance and accuracy issues.
  • Communicate technical material to internal and external audiences.
  • Maintain extensive documentation of model development and data analysis.
  • Maintain quantitative systems pharmacology expertise through education, including attendance and participation in conferences and scientific workshops.

Benefits

  • Health and wellbeing benefits, including high-quality healthcare, prevention, and wellness programs.
  • At least 14 weeks of gender-neutral parental leave.
  • Employees may be eligible to participate in company employee benefit programs.
  • A rewards package recognizing employee contributions.
