Modeling and Simulation Engineer

BAE Systems•Sterling, VA
•$149,603 - $254,317

About The Position

BAE Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer experienced in modeling and simulation environments to develop, build, and deliver models in a new enterprise lab built in a cloud-based environment across multiple classification levels. The lab supports emerging paradigms that enhance customer capabilities and tradecraft. It will incorporate multi-intelligence data infusion to enable innovative tradecraft-development modeling and simulation and provide solutions to customer problems and needs. The Modeling and Simulation Engineer will lead a team executing modeling and simulation; develop conceptual system and software models to predict system-level performance at algorithm and hardware levels; and establish functional architectures and frameworks for system performance models. The role includes analyzing system performance against requirements, connecting models with actual hardware and emulators, validating models against real and simulated data, and collaborating across engineering disciplines to develop models with appropriate fidelity. The engineer will support program reviews and technical interchange meetings, prepare presentations and documents, brief stakeholders and potentially customers, and build collaborative relationships across the organization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of work experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience performing systems engineering activities across the development cycle through production, including requirements analysis, decomposition, derivation and allocation; system modeling and simulation; system design and development; and system integration and test.
  • Modeling and simulation experience in an embedded system.
  • Experience with MATLAB and C/C++ design and programming in Windows and Linux environments.
  • Experience with radar systems, threat radars, Electronic Warfare, or RF concepts.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across engineering disciplines.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-through skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented, with problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of data analytics.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to innovate creatively and tenaciously seek solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to execute modeling and simulation.
  • Perform modeling and simulation for conceptual software and system design to predict system-level performance at the algorithm and hardware levels.
  • Determine the functional architecture and framework of system performance models.
  • Develop system performance models for incorporation into a modeling and simulation framework.
  • Analyze system performance against requirements to verify compliance and recommend proposed requirement changes when appropriate.
  • Build a strong linkage between actual hardware or emulators and performance models.
  • Validate work against real and simulated data, correcting for non-ideal data artifacts.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines and business areas to develop performance models with appropriate fidelity.
  • Support program gates, including preliminary design reviews, critical design reviews, and technical interchange meetings.
  • Prepare presentations and documents.
  • Brief internal stakeholders, internal subject matter experts, and potentially customers.
  • Build collaborative relationships with key leaders and peers, internally and externally.
