About The Position

CFD Research is developing a novel framework for multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO) of aerospace systems. The framework integrates physics-based modeling and simulation (M&S) with predictive machine learning (ML) techniques to perform more efficient optimization. The framework is being applied to support conceptual design and maturation of aerospace systems. Our team is seeking an engineer with intellectual curiosity and technical mastery necessary for development of next-generation systems. This role will apply advanced modeling and simulation techniques to support multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization of air frames, propulsion, sensors, guidance, and control. The candidate will support delivery, deployment, and application of modeling and optimization processes to the Air Force Research Laboratory and other DoD customers.

Requirements

  • US Citizen and meet eligibility to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance
  • Bachelor's in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineer, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics (or similar)
  • 3+ years of development experience
  • Proficiency with Python and C++ software languages used in simulations
  • Proficiency with software development best practices – Git, code linting, CI/CD
  • Experience with 6DOF engagement simulation, and/or mission simulation tools

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with containerized workflows and deployment of software
  • Experience with the specifc AFSIM or CWS 6DOF tools
  • Experience with aerodynamic modeling tools like Missile DATCOM, OpenVSP, Kestrel
  • Experience with multi-disciplinary analysis and optimization (MDAO)
  • Familiarity with guidance, navigation, and control schemes
  • Masters or PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineer, or similar discipline.

Responsibilities
