Modeling and Simulation Engineer: HSV-26128

deciBel Research, Inc.•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

deciBel Research has an immediate opening for a Modeling and Simulation Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama. The role is part of the MDA Joint Integrated Fire Control Mission Engineering team and focuses on developing, integrating, and executing complex simulations of Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) systems. The engineer will translate theoretical mission architectures into quantifiable performance data to support customers’ data-driven investment and modernization decisions. The position involves modeling IAMD components, integrating models into real-time and constructive simulation frameworks, developing analysis tools for large simulation datasets, and assessing end-to-end mission effectiveness across complex architectures. Candidates must have an active Secret security clearance and be able to obtain a Top Secret clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related highly technical field.
  • 5 to 10 years of applied engineering experience, with a heavy focus on modeling, simulation, and analytical tool development.
  • Strong programming skills to build and integrate engineering simulations in C++.
  • Proven ability to integrate models into larger simulation architectures, managing data exchange, simulation timing, and data collection pipelines for post-run analysis.
  • Experience analyzing architectures for sensor-to-shooter loops and fire control closures.
  • Active Secret security clearance and ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Docker, Podman, or similar tools for containerizing modeling and simulation applications.
  • Experience with Army IAMD systems or Missile Defense Agency architectures and platforms; familiarity with the Joint Track Management Capability Bridge.
  • Experience with common DoD simulation frameworks such as AFSIM, FSI, DIS, or other environments.
  • Familiarity with translating operational scenarios or kill webs into quantitative simulation environments.
  • Experience with Python, Java, Matlab, Gitlab, and/or Linux.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, and test high-fidelity mathematical models and simulations of IAMD components, including sensors, interceptors, and threat kinematics.
  • Integrate disparate system models into real-time Hardware-in-the-Loop or Software-in-the-Loop frameworks and non-real-time constructive simulation frameworks.
  • Develop automated analysis tools and scripts to parse large simulation datasets and enable sensitivity analysis, trade-space exploration, and quantification of mission effectiveness.
  • Evaluate threat kinematics, sensor-shooter assignments, weapon flyouts, and overall lethality to quantify end-to-end performance across complex IAMD architectures.
