About The Position

In conjunction with the Fabrication Manager, the Model Shop Supervisor sets priorities, manpower activities, and build schedules for their respective team, ensuring timing goals are met. This role holds the team accountable for meeting quality objectives, functional performance, techniques, timing, and budget. The supervisor is responsible for maintaining, directing, and scheduling daily project communication meetings within the studios, and consistently updating and following up on continuous improvement initiatives for the department or processes on existing and future programs. A key aspect of this role is maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment on the shop floor, in build studios, and office areas, along with executing employee training, and developing, guiding, and coaching employees to ensure they work in a safe, organized environment and adhere to company policies. The supervisor must maintain professional interactions with direct reports, other departments, management, vendors, and customers, and attend staff meetings to report on department tasks or program status. They will communicate program status to the Program Manager and escalate any cost, timing, quality, or risk issues deemed necessary. Constant floor supervision is required to ensure all processes and standard operating procedures are followed for each program, taking up a minimum of 90% of the supervisor's time daily. The role also involves maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, completing final inspections, reporting back if assistance is needed, overseeing crib materials distribution and usage, and tracking tool orders. The supervisor must maintain MRP status for the department daily, participate in client open issues reviews when needed, and provide accurate estimates for hourly requirements, material costs, and project assumptions for quoting purposes.

Requirements

  • Extensive background in plastics model making with a minimum of 10 years hands-on experience.
  • Ability to lead personnel and coordinate workflow to meet or exceed predetermined timelines and quality levels.
  • A minimum of 2 years leadership experience.
  • High School or GED equivalent.
  • Proficient in budgeting time and allocating resources.
  • Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, Outlook, Tasks, Teams.
  • Capability to learn the use of part tracking software, CAD WORKXPLORE, as well as time balance software.
  • Team builder and motivator.
  • Training of staff in attention to detail and quality.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable.
  • Strong work ethic for themselves and the team.
  • Pride in workmanship.
  • Must possess basic hand tools for the position and upgrade such tools as required.
