About The Position

The Model Maker is responsible for ensuring products are built correctly by analyzing technical requirements and design specifications throughout the development process. This hands-on role designs and develops test plans, test cases, and test procedures to validate that functional prototypes, appearance models, and test fixtures meet defined performance and quality benchmarks. The Model Maker identifies and reports defects, tracks issues through to resolution, and collaborates closely with engineering, industrial design, and laboratory teams from concept development through final validation.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Relevant experience in model making, fabrication, or prototype development
  • Experience working with metals, plastics, aluminum extrusions, and other fabrication materials
  • Proficiency in conventional machining (milling, turning, drilling)
  • MIG and TIG welding capability
  • Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping methods
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Basic CAD proficiency (e.g., SolidWorks)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills
  • Ability to apply math concepts including geometry, trigonometry, and basic industrial math
  • Analytical thinking – ability to evaluate technical requirements and identify gaps
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • Structured problem solving and defect tracking
  • Collaboration and teamwork across engineering, design, and lab functions
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced development environment
