About The Position

The Model Maker uses prints, drawings, specifications, or other means to create a model to a customer specification. This role involves constructing, assembling, or modifying parts, models, molds, and fixtures using manual and power tools. The technician will select and work with various materials, including plastics, metals, and composites, and will be responsible for aligning, fitting, and joining parts, as well as cutting, shaping, and forming parts using various tools. The role also includes inspecting and testing products to verify conformance to specifications and inspecting finished models for accuracy, troubleshooting, and testing functionality. Laying out and marking reference points and dimensions on materials is also a key part of the job. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous experience working in an automotive company making models.
• Must be able to read blueprints and interpret engineering drawings.

Nice To Haves

• A certificate from an accredited technical or industrial trade school is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Constructing, assembling, or modifying parts, models, molds, and fixtures using manual and power tools.
• Selecting and working with various materials, including plastics, metals, and composites.
• Aligning, fitting, and joining parts using bolts and screws or by welding or gluing.
• Cutting, shaping, and forming parts using lathes, power saws, snips, power brakes and shears, files, and mallets.
• Drilling, countersinking, and reaming holes in parts and assemblies for bolts, screws, and other fasteners, using power tools.
• Grinding, filing, and sanding parts to finished dimensions.
• Inspecting and testing products to verify conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments or circuit testers.
• Inspecting finished models for accuracy, troubleshooting, and testing functionality.
• Laying out and marking reference points and dimensions on materials, using measuring instruments and drawing or scribing tools.
