Model Based Systems Engineer

Booz Allen HamiltonSan Diego, CA
$86,900 - $198,000Remote

About The Position

This role focuses on applying technical skills to system modeling for the DoD, translating real-world needs into technical specifications for customer-focused engineering solutions. The engineer will support the PAE Mission Systems Digital Engineering (DE) Lead in developing DE standards, ontologies, and work products. They will utilize advanced knowledge of MBSE tools, languages, and methodologies to provide insights and recommendations for technical product development. Key responsibilities include providing technical oversight and leading the development and maintenance of Navy MBSE technical products such as the Base Classifier Library (BCL), Integrated Dictionary (ID), Model Verification Tool execution, and Deployable Ready Products (DRP). The role involves working independently with some guidance and potentially reviewing or guiding junior employees. The engineer will design MBSE techniques and practices for DoD C4I systems across the life cycle, implementing MBSE approaches and tools to help client delivery teams transition to model-based system architectures. This includes developing skills in SysML, object-oriented and function-based systems engineering methods, and integration, while gaining experience in C4I and enterprise networking technologies. The goal is to merge system modeling and networking to create robust network system architectures for development, implementation, and sustainment.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience with MBSE tools, including Cameo Systems Modeler (CSM), MagicDraw, and Teamwork Cloud (TWC)
  • 3+ years of experience with collaborative Navy modeling environments on NIPR and SIPR, including Naval Integrated Modeling Environment (N-IME), Naval Digital Engineering Ecosystem (NDEE), and TWC
  • 3+ years of experience with modeling languages and methodologies, including Systems Modeling Language (SysML), Unifed Modeling Language (UML), Unified Architecture Framework (UAF) and UAF Profile (UAFP), and Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF)
  • Experience with MBSE concepts, such as generalization, inheritance, redefinition, refactoring, developing structured expressions, and distinguishing between stereotype tags and owned attributes
  • Experience maintaining models in collaborative environments such as TWC, working with federated architectures and project usages, and transferring models between classified enclaves such as using DOTS to transfer from NIPR to SIPR
  • Experience with model verification tools and techniques, including metric suites, validation rules, structure expressions, and Jython scripting
  • Knowledge of authoritative reference sources, including the Joint Capability Areas (JCA), Universal Naval and Joint Task Lists (UNTL and UJTL), and Joint Common System Functions List (JCSFL) and how they are used in architecture model development
  • Ability to bridge the gap between MBSE capabilities and organizational needs to improve organizational processes and products with MBSE tooling
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing architecture models that conform to DoDAF and UAF
  • Experience with Top Secret (TS) Navy modeling environments, including Eden TS Teamwork Cloud
  • Knowledge of PAE Mission Systems and Chief Engineer’s (CHENG) organizational processes and procedures, such as Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Interim Authorization to Test (IATT), and Authority to Operate (ATO)
  • Knowledge of emerging enterprise architecture frameworks, their purpose and implementation, and how they will relate to and impact Navy architectures
  • Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • Master’s degree
  • OMG-Certified Systems Modeling Language Professional (OCSMP) Certification
