About The Position

ASI is seeking a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Systems Engineer to support a large-scale, complex engineering program. This position may be filled at multiple levels based on the candidate’s experience, technical background, and demonstrated MBSE capabilities. The selected candidate will support the development and implementation of MBSE practices across the system lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture development, interface definition, verification planning, and digital engineering integration. The ideal candidate combines strong systems engineering fundamentals with MBSE expertise and hands-on experience using SysML-based modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler. The candidate will work across multidisciplinary teams to establish and maintain system architecture, ensure end-to-end traceability, and support program execution through a robust digital engineering environment. Depending on experience level, the candidate may support or lead technical modeling, architecture, and systems engineering activities across multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of systems engineering or MBSE experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform systems engineering activities with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience supporting complex engineering programs.
  • Ability to lead architecture development, technical reviews, and cross-functional engineering efforts.
  • Experience developing system models using Cameo Systems Modeler or similar SysML-based MBSE tools.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes, requirements management, traceability, and verification and validation methodologies.
  • Experience supporting engineering activities within a multidisciplinary development environment.
  • Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers
  • Ability to adapt communication style and messaging to different audiences
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, ensuring stakeholder expectations are managed appropriately
  • Ability to work in a project-oriented, fast paced environment to meet deadlines
  • The candidate must be able to work in a team environment, or independently, as necessary, and be a self-starter who will attack designs and resolve problems effectively and efficiently
  • Proficiency in common business software (Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Visio, Teams/SharePoint)
  • Ability to work with project teams to successfully deliver new or modified functionalities
  • Keen attention to detail to deliver solutions that meet business requirements and are operationally supportable
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • U.S. Citizenship Required
  • Must be able to successfully pass an initial background screening.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
  • Occasional overtime and alternate shifts may be required to meet customer schedules, critical deadlines, or program milestones.
  • Must be able and willing to travel domestically and, on occasion, internationally to customer sites, partner locations, or project meetings in support of contract objectives.
  • Candidate must be able to work in small-confined spaces (simulator cockpits)

Nice To Haves

  • Experience implementing or supporting MBSE on defense, aerospace, simulation, training, or other complex engineering programs.
  • Knowledge of Digital Engineering frameworks, strategies, digital thread, and digital thread concepts.
  • Experience and/or familiarity of integrating MBSE tools with requirements management and PLM environments such as DOORS Next, Polarion, Tor PLM integration environments.
  • Familiarity with DoD Architecture Framework (DoDAF), UAF, or related architecture frameworks.
  • INCOSE ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP certification.
  • Active DoD security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and manage system architecture models using SysML and MBSE methodologies including structural, behavioral, interface, and requirements traceability views
  • Create and maintain system views that support requirements traceability, architecture definition, interface management, and verification planning.
  • Support requirements analysis, decomposition, allocation, traceability and verification activities throughout the system lifecycle and across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, test, cybersecurity, and operations teams to ensure system-level integration and consistency.
  • Support system integration, verification, validation, technical reviews, and engineering assessments.
  • Support digital engineering initiatives, including integration with requirements management, configuration management, and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools.
  • Conduct trade studies, architecture evaluations, risk assessments, and technical analyses to support engineering decisions.
  • Develop and implement MBSE modeling standards, practices, and governance processes appropriate to program needs and experience level.
  • Communicate technical concepts, model results, and engineering recommendations to stakeholders and program leadership.
