About The Position

EIP Energy Infrastructure Partners LLC (EIP) is a minority-owned business specializing in energy efficiency, electrification, decarbonization, and demand-side management programs. With offices in New York, Illinois, California, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington, EIP combines national reach with local market understanding. Our work advances sustainable energy solutions, supports economic development, and prioritizes benefits for disadvantaged communities. As a leader in clean energy program implementation and consulting, EIP is proud to help clients achieve meaningful environmental and economic outcomes through innovative, high-impact projects. EIP is seeking a Model Analyst based in Chicago to conduct regression analysis and quantify energy savings for strategic energy management (SEM) programs serving ComEd, PECO, and NYSEG markets. The analyst will build and maintain facility-level energy use models that account for production, weather, occupancy, and other relevant drivers, then use those models to assess changes in performance over time. Working with engineers, SEM coaches, program managers, and customer teams, the Model Analyst will gather and validate data, select appropriate model variables and time periods, establish baselines, calculate normalized savings, and prepare documentation that supports program reporting and technical review. The role requires careful statistical analysis and the judgment to distinguish meaningful operational improvements from data issues or changes in facility activity. The ideal candidate can explain modeling assumptions and results clearly to technical and nontechnical colleagues, manage recurring analyses for multiple facilities, and adapt methods to each utility program’s measurement and verification requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, statistics, mathematics, data science, economics, physics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, interpret, and validate multivariable regression models using real-world time-series or operational data.
  • Strong Excel skills and proficiency with at least one analytical environment such as R, Python, SQL, or a comparable statistical tool.
  • Ability to assess model fit, data quality, variable selection, outliers, seasonality, and uncertainty without relying solely on automated outputs.
  • Ability to maintain transparent calculations and explain methods, assumptions, adjustments, and results clearly in writing.
  • Ability to work with engineers, customer-facing teams, and program managers to understand the operational context behind the data.
  • Ability to manage analyses for multiple facilities and programs, maintain version control, and meet recurring reporting deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing energy baselines or calculating savings for strategic energy management, industrial energy management, or related utility programs.
  • Familiarity with whole-facility measurement and verification, normalized metered energy consumption approaches, IPMVP Option C, or utility-specific SEM protocols.
  • Experience working with utility interval data, billing data, weather normalization, industrial production data, or building management system trends.
  • Experience evaluating model bias, normalized mean bias error, coefficient of variation of root mean squared error, confidence intervals, or comparable model quality measures where appropriate.
  • Familiarity with commercial or industrial energy systems and common factors that influence facility energy consumption.
  • Experience supporting ComEd, PECO, NYSEG, or other utility energy efficiency programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop reproducible regression models that describe normal facility energy use and its relationship to relevant operating conditions.
  • Quantify changes in energy use attributable to SEM activities using approved methods, documented adjustments, and appropriate uncertainty checks.
  • Identify missing, inconsistent, or anomalous utility and driver data before they affect model results or savings claims.
  • Apply the applicable utility and program measurement and verification protocols consistently across participating facilities.
  • Translate model findings into useful feedback for SEM coaches, engineers, customers, and program managers.
  • Maintain models and recurring reports on schedule while supporting accurate portfolio-level tracking and continuous improvement.
  • Collect and organize utility bills, interval meter data, production records, weather data, operating schedules, occupancy, and other drivers relevant to each facility.
  • Check units, time stamps, meter coverage, missing periods, duplicate records, outliers, and changes in operations; document corrections and unresolved limitations.
  • Select appropriate baseline periods and independent variables; build and test facility-level models using suitable statistical tools and program-approved methods.
  • Review residuals, explanatory power, bias, error metrics, and the plausibility of coefficients; investigate poor model fit and avoid unsupported savings conclusions.
  • Compare observed reporting-period energy use with modeled baseline consumption adjusted to reporting-period conditions; document formulas, inputs, and results.
  • Assess whether equipment, production, schedules, occupancy, or other non-routine changes require model revisions or documented adjustments under program rules.
  • Prepare model files, data dictionaries, calculation workbooks, charts, and narratives for internal review, utility reporting, and evaluator requests.
  • Work with SEM coaches and engineers to understand facility operations, validate model drivers, investigate unexpected trends, and interpret results.
  • Present baselines, performance trends, savings estimates, assumptions, and uncertainty in concise reports and visualizations suited to the intended audience.
  • Update recurring analyses, track analysis status and due dates, reconcile facility results to program reporting, and escalate data or modeling risks.
  • Help refine templates, quality checks, documentation standards, and repeatable workflows across SEM programs.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. ($60k-$75k)
  • Performance-based bonus tied to individual and company performance.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with employer match.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
  • Paid vacation, sick time, and holidays.
  • Professional development and training opportunities.
  • A dynamic, inclusive work environment that encourages collaboration, innovation, and growth.
