About The Position

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse, this role supports the clinical workflow by mobilizing patients using lift equipment and/or mobilization aids and other trained healthcare personnel. The Mobilization Tech considers the clinical needs of the patient within a variety of clinical settings and communicates and coordinates with other healthcare team members to meet the needs of patients and staff.

Requirements

  • 1 Year Hospital or similar experience
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

Nice To Haves

  • Some college course in medical field.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and ability to effectively communicate in a demanding environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the clinical work flow by mobilizing patients using lift equipment and/or mobilization aids and other trained health care personnel.
  • Consider the clinical needs of the patient within a variety of clinical settings.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other Healthcare team members in meeting the needs of patients and staff.
  • Communicate relevant patient information regarding patients to appropriate staff members.
  • Communicate incomplete activities requiring follow-up to appropriate personnel.
  • Recognize barriers to communication of plan of care and seeks resources or options.
  • Make recommendations for optimizing patient and staff safety to leadership.
  • Role model appropriate use of lift and mobilization equipment and/or aids.
  • Utilize appropriate lift and mobilization equipment and/or aids.
  • Under the direction of the Registered Nurse may ambulate the patient utilizing the appropriate equipment or assist devices.
  • Assist with lateral and supine patient transfers from bed to chair, chair to bed or bed to gurney as well as repositioning in bed and/or chair.
  • Demonstrate ability to transfer, with assistance, patients with complex clinical support equipment safely, maintaining integrity of intravenous lines, suction devices, feeding tubes, etc.
  • Ensure and maintain integrity of unit lift and mobilization equipment.
  • Take appropriate action in life threatening situations and immediately notify the licensed nurse.
  • Maintain expertise and role model use of lift and mobilization equipment and/or aids.
  • In collaboration with unit clinical nurse specialist or educator, participate in and ensure initial and ongoing competencies of patient mobilization for unit staff.
  • In collaboration with unit clinical nurse specialist or educator, participate in and ensure initial and ongoing competencies of patient mobilization equipment for unit staff.
  • Identify potential gaps in safe patient mobilization and report to nursing leadership.
