About The Position

Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Mobility driver (MOB) is responsible for transporting patients to and from hospitals, nursing homes, doctor appointments and private residences. The Mobility driver will complete and obtain signatures for transport for each patient on their run sheet and deliver any face sheets obtained from a medical facility to Butler Medical Transport home office. While transporting in a BMT vehicle, the Mobility driver will abide by all local, state and federal traffic laws.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent
  • Must be at least 19 years old or older at the time of hire for insurance purposes
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current healthcare provider level CPR certification from the AHA
  • Has or is able to obtain a PSC certification
  • Ability to work in a busy, high-stress environment
  • Ability to comprehend or learn department practices, rules, and regulations
  • Ability to operate and text on a cellular phone
  • Ability to operate computers
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population
  • Ability to think and react quickly and effectively to tense situations
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Ability to recall details from numerous informational resources

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients to and from hospitals, nursing homes, doctor appointments, and private residences.
  • Complete and obtain signatures for transport for each patient on their run sheet.
  • Deliver face sheets obtained from a medical facility to the Butler Medical Transport home office.
  • Abide by all local, state, and federal traffic laws while operating a BMT vehicle.
  • Perform daily unit check sheets, ensuring fluids are topped off and maintenance issues are reported.
  • Verify the proper operation of the wheelchair lift, doors, and all safety equipment.
  • Ensure all safety equipment, including first aid kits and fire extinguishers, are accounted for.
  • Update dispatch via text or phone call when enroute, arrived, transporting, or clear.
  • Notify dispatch when available, out of service, on scene, or delayed, providing reasons.
  • Ensure all ambulatory patients wear seat belts.
  • Properly secure wheelchair patients using the lift and restraints.
  • Clean, sweep, and remove trash from the van daily.
  • Wash the van if weather permits.
  • Place all paperwork (manifest, wheelchair run reports, authorization forms, face sheets, etc.) in the designated bin.
  • Never take a wheelchair up or down any stairs.
  • Record starting and ending mileage for each run.
  • Do not take non-patients as passengers.
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean and refueled at the end of each shift.
  • Verify all information, including addresses for pickups and drop-offs, at the beginning of the shift.
  • Fill out a mobility check sheet, scan it, email it to the supervisor, and place it in the designated bin.
  • Provide assistance to ambulatory patients who may use a cane or walker.
  • Ensure self-regulated O2 containers brought by patients are properly secured.
  • Do not assist a patient in or out of a wheelchair.
