About The Position

Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Mobility driver (MOB) is responsible for transporting patients to and from hospitals, nursing homes, doctor appointments and private residences. The Mobility driver will complete and obtain signatures for transport for each patient on their run sheet and deliver any face sheets obtained from a medical facility to AEC Medical Transport home office. While transporting in a AEC vehicle, the Mobility driver will abide by all local, state and federal traffic laws.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 19 years old or older at the time of hire for insurance purposes.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Current healthcare provider level CPR certification from the AHA.
  • Ability to work in a busy, high-stress environment.
  • Ability to comprehend or learn department practices, rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to operate and text on a cellular phone.
  • Ability to operate computers.
  • Ability to speak clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
  • Ability to think and react quickly and effectively to tense situations.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to recall details from numerous informational resources.
  • Ability to prioritize decisions based upon multiple criteria and identifiable standards of policies and procedures.
  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Arrive at work in uniform.
  • Pass background investigation.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, and all subsequent random or for cause drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients to and from hospitals, nursing homes, doctor appointments, and private residences.
  • Complete and obtain signatures for transport for each patient on their run sheet.
  • Deliver face sheets obtained from a medical facility to the AEC Medical Transport home office.
  • Abide by all local, state, and federal traffic laws while operating an AEC vehicle.
  • Perform daily unit check sheets, ensuring fluids are topped off and maintenance issues are reported.
  • Verify the proper operation of the wheelchair lift, including doors, lift mechanism, wheelchair restraints, and seatbelts.
  • Inspect the exterior of the vehicle for tire condition, lights, and body damage.
  • Check the interior of the vehicle for proper functioning of the emergency brake, wipers, horn, gauges, HVAC, seats, handrails, and mirrors.
  • Ensure all emergency equipment (First Aid Kit, fire extinguisher, accident packet, emergency reflectors) is accounted for.
  • Update dispatch via text or phone call when en route, arrived, transporting, or clear.
  • Notify dispatch when available, out of service, on scene, or delayed at a scene (providing a reason for delays over 20 minutes).
  • Ensure all ambulatory patients wear seatbelts.
  • Assist patients using the lift if they require it, ensuring they are properly secured in a wheelchair and the vehicle.
  • Ensure no one stands on the lift at any time.
  • Clean the vehicle, sweep, and remove trash at the end of each shift.
  • Wash the van if weather permits.
  • Place all paperwork (manifest, wheelchair run reports, authorization forms, face sheets, etc.) in the designated bin.
  • Never take a wheelchair up or down any stairs.
  • Record starting and ending mileage for each run.
  • Contact dispatch upon arrival, during transport, at the destination, and when clearing each patient.
  • Communicate with dispatch regarding traffic delays or patient readiness.
  • Provide assistance to ambulatory patients who may use a cane or walker.
  • Ensure a patient's self-regulated O2 container is properly secured in the van.
  • Refuel the vehicle at the end of each shift.
  • Verify all pickup and drop-off addresses at the beginning of the shift.
  • Fill out and email the mobility check sheet to the supervisor and place it in the designated bin.
  • Record start and end mileage for each run in the comments section.
  • Do not take non-patients as passengers.
  • Ensure the vehicle is clean and refueled for the next driver at the end of the shift.
