The Mobility Aide is a Nurse Assistant or PT Aide with additional patient mobility training who provides safe patient mobilization and transfer assistance using approved assistive devices and procedures in the acute hospital setting. This role involves demonstrating the use of patient transfer equipment/device use, patient mobility techniques, and body mechanics in a safe manner. Examples of transfers include bed to chair, toilet/commode, or wheelchair and return, bed to cart and return, and repositioning up in bed or chair. The Mobility Aide must be able to select the appropriate equipment and method of patient transfer after consideration of the patient's ability to provide assistance, bear weight, cooperate and follow directions. The goal is to progress patients to mobility three times per day. The role requires managing multiple priorities, communicating effectively with the multidisciplinary team, and documenting mobility completion in the electronic medical record. The Mobility Aide will also coach staff on mobility and enlist their assistance as needed, respond to call lights promptly, and may provide direct patient care within the Nurse Assistant licensure as needed and time allows (e.g., incontinence care, setting up patient trays). Other duties as assigned.
