About The Position

Cox Fleet is a leading provider of on-site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. They also service customers through over 50 nationwide service centers offering accident repair, painting, refurbishment, and heavy mechanical repair. A 24/7 in-house call-center supports scheduled and unscheduled maintenance services. Cox Fleet is currently hiring a Mobile Trailer Technician II for a dedicated on-site position, focusing on scheduled maintenance and repairs, not emergency roadside assistance. The role involves performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, and light repairs on various trailer components. Technicians will work at customer sites and have opportunities to learn advanced mechanical skills under supervision. A successful candidate will adhere to company policies and achieve high performance metrics.

Requirements

High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field (Trailers).
Alternatively, any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline; or 5 years’ experience in a related field.
Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
Participate in and complete all company-required training.
Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. If the DOT medical card has four (4) months or less of validity remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
Candidates must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
Valid driver’s license required.
Must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.
Class CDL C License required OR obtained within 18 months.

Responsibilities

Perform preventive maintenance and repairs, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using a company-issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
Follow safe operating practices and procedures.
Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
Apply acquired knowledge to perform job duties and evaluate technical information.
Effectively communicate with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and satisfy expectations.
Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
Act with integrity, honesty, and by keeping commitments.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
Respond to call center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
Communicate with management and support team via email or phone for approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO discussions.
Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Participate and complete all company-required safety training.
Establish and maintain good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors.
Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Maintain company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre/post trip inspections.
Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures.
Remain up to date on safety protocols and procedures.
Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body, and framework.
Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
