About The Position

Cox Fleet is a leading provider of on-site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. We are seeking a Mobile Trailer Technician II to join our team. This is a dedicated on-site position focused on performing certified DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, and light repairs. The role involves working at customer sites and offers opportunities for learning advanced mechanical skills under supervision. A successful candidate will comply with company policies and achieve high performance metrics.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ experience in a related field, OR any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline; OR 5 years’ experience in a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
• Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
• Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
• Obtain 608/609 certification within eighteen (18) months.
• Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
• A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. If the DOT medical card has four (4) months or less of validity remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
• Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
• Valid driver’s license required; must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license and be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File.
• REQUIRED OR OBTAINED WITHIN 18 MONTHS: ASE T8 (PMI) certification.

Responsibilities

• Perform certified DOT inspections and Preventative Maintenance inspections.
• Perform light repairs on trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, and liftgates.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
• Diagnose and repair/replace compressors, coils, and electrical components on refrigeration equipment (ThermoKing, Carrier, etc.).
• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”) and DOT Inspections on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
• Respond to dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
• Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
• Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (“RO”) using a company-issued iOS device and the TRAIT application.
• Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
• Manage own daily schedule with a high degree of independence.
• Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
• Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors.
• Communicate with management and support teams for approvals, purchase order numbers, and RO discussions.
• Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
• Participate in and complete all company-required safety training.
• Establish and maintain good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors.
• Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Maintain company-issued service truck, conduct safety checks, and daily pre/post-trip inspections.
• Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems.
• Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including welding, fabrication, and body/framework repairs.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments.
• Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
