About The Position

We are seeking a skilled Mobile Reefer Mechanic to join our team. This role involves performing preventative maintenance and repairs on refrigeration units and trailers at customer locations. You will be responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing various components, managing parts inventory, and communicating effectively with clients and internal teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently outdoors from a service truck.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of two years of prior experience in heavy-duty trailer maintenance, or an equivalent combination of formal/technical education and directly related experience.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to provide own tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Self-motivated with good time management skills.
  • Technical reading aptitude (e.g., electronic service bulletins, repair manuals).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge relative to the importance of diagnosis and repair versus parts replacement.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Thermo King product is preferred.
  • Transport refrigeration experience is preferred.
  • Mobile repair experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform preventative maintenance and light repairs on refrigeration units and trailers.
  • Perform minor repairs on door seals, hardware, electrical components, mud flaps, and routine telematics.
  • Conduct minor body work and light replacement/repairs.
  • Set up and manage repairs with external vendors for work outside standard reefer repairs (e.g., tires, bulkheads, lights).
  • Work outdoors from a service truck at customer locations to perform inspections and repairs.
  • Perform reefer PMs, trailer PMs/DOT inspections.
  • Order and manage parts, maintaining accurate inventory levels on the service truck.
  • Inspect and repair components, including refrigeration unit body parts, belts, oil and coolant levels, fuel tank and brackets, and reefer shoot/bulkhead.
  • Read and follow electrical schematics and other technical literature.
  • Utilize computer systems (Mechanic’s Work Station/TMT/TMW, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and web apps) to create, track, and complete work orders, including charging out parts, completing labor lines accurately, and describing repairs.
  • Estimate required repair times.
  • Communicate with internal and external clients (technicians, Drivers, Dispatch, customer dispatch) regarding repair status, wait times, and decisions.
  • Assist other technicians with reefer and trailer repairs as needed.
  • Adhere to proper safety protocols and procedures, including the use of protective equipment and maintaining a safe work area.
  • Diagnose and repair reefer unit issues based on alarm codes (minor repairs).
