About The Position

Road & Rail Services is hiring an experienced Mobile Railcar Repair Technician based in Austin, Texas, to perform railcar inspection, maintenance, welding, and repair work at various field locations. This position is designed for someone who already knows railcar repair and is comfortable taking those skills on the road. You'll travel as required, work in outdoor railroad environments, and complete repairs while maintaining high standards for safety and workmanship. Previous railcar repair experience and welding experience are required. This is not an entry-level railroad position. Requirements

  • Previous railcar maintenance or repair experience
  • Welding experience, including stick welding
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair abilities
  • Experience safely using hand tools, power tools, and repair equipment
  • Ability to work independently in field environments
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
  • Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Valid driver's license
  • Dependable attendance and strong safety awareness

Nice To Haves

  • 4G and 5G welding experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a Railcar Mechanic, Railroad Carman, Railcar Repairman, Freight Car Repairer, or Railcar Maintenance Technician may align well with this position.

Responsibilities

  • Examine railcars for damage, wear, defects, and conditions requiring repair
  • Determine appropriate repairs within the authorized scope of work
  • Perform mechanical maintenance and railcar component repairs
  • Complete welding and fabrication work as required
  • Perform stick welding and other approved welding procedures
  • Lubricate railcar components and complete required servicing
  • Apply required markings and stenciling
  • Complete repair records, inspection forms, and other documentation
  • Safely operate company vehicles, tools, and equipment
  • Maintain an orderly and safe work area
  • Follow customer, company, AAR, and applicable railroad safety requirements
  • Travel to assigned locations based on customer and operational needs
