About The Position

Mobile Phlebotomist is an experienced phlebotomist responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing in Intermountain and non – Intermountain facilities and various non-medical settings according to established best practice that enhanced patient and caregiver engagement. The Mobile Phlebotomist is part of a group of Caregivers who travel to provide phlebotomy services to patients in settings such as contracted care facilities, patient homes, and health fair settings. They also serve as a member of the Outreach phlebotomy team within Intermountain facilities. This position is responsible to accurately and compassionately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional, medical environment. They communicate closely and frequently with other members of the team, checking in throughout the day. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement.

Requirements

  • BLS Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent in compliance with CLIA regulation, required.
  • Current driver’s license, insured and reliable transportation, and an acceptable driving record, required.
  • Ability to communicate with the phlebotomy team on a personal mobile device.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of Intermountain Laboratory Services phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training or certification as approved by manager/supervisor, Preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specimen collection using many different techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections.
  • Collects specimens from patients of varying acuities by traveling to settings such as contracted care facilities, patient homes, and health fair settings.
  • Adheres to and enforces the standards for laboratory compliance and safety regulations.
  • Safely travels to contracted facilities and/or patient homes to perform collections and operates independently with little or no on-site support for difficult collections.
  • Adheres to personal protective requirements in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, including but not limited to gowns, gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks.
  • Communicates procedures and instructions with patients and family members and demonstrates empathy during every interaction.
  • Maintains accurate patient logs.
  • Monitors patient scheduling systems.
  • Performs patient and client registrations.
  • Ensures accurate and timely record keeping (e.g. patient records, mileage for reimbursement).
  • Trains and mentors new staff.
  • Performs specimen processing.
  • Participates in special projects.
  • Involved in quality assurance processes.
  • Performs waived testing.
  • Assists with downtime planning.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement projects.
  • Performs other laboratory responsibilities as required by site or assigned by the team or department leader.
  • Performs advanced collection and troubleshooting techniques such as bilateral nares or non-standard kit collection.
