A Lab Assistant I - Phlebotomist preforms adult and pediatric Phlebotomy, in addition to daily tasks including, centrifuging, aliquoting and stabilizing patient specimens for transport via courier to the main campus lab or via the pneumatic tube system. Accurately register patients, insurance verification and verifying all patient demographics. Scheduling and performing home draws.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Vocational phlebotomy (or related) course/program completion or 2 years working phlebotomy experience.
  • Valid New York State Drivers License.

  • Good written and oral communication skills preferred.
  • Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes.

Responsibilities

  • Performs proper venipuncture and post care of phlebotomy site along with labeling each specimen with 2 forms of ID with zero labeling errors.
  • Perform registration, requisitioning and workflow utilizing Epic. Participates in quality assurance and maintains inter and intra departmental work flow.
  • Helps minimize butterfly usage throughout the PSC"s, maintains professional knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Schedules home draw appointments
  • Maintains adequate inventory and all checklists and is able to trouble shoot when temperatures are out of range and assist with daily, weekly and monthly checklist completion.
  • Maintains vehicle cleanliness according to compliance requirements, follows all New York State traffic laws, and adheres to facilities SOP for courier vehicles.
  • Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, HIPPAA standards, infection control and safety guidelines.
  • Participates in educational opportunities to maintain professional knowledge
