About The Position

Northern Star Resources Limited is seeking a Mobile Maintenance Mechanic for their Pogo operation in Alaska. This role involves maintaining underground mobile and associated ancillary equipment in a timely and cost-effective manner, adhering to company standards to minimize downtime and ensure machine reliability. The position is permanent and offers job security with an extended mine-life. The role is based at a remote campsite with a rotational camp schedule.

Requirements

  • Current Driver’s License.
  • 2-5 years mechanical experience in heavy mining application.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skill and ability to carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Proficient in prioritizing work.
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Basic literacy – must be able to read and write in English.
  • Computer literacy – Microsoft Office, Pronto or similar Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Act & Regulations.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post offer physical.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake diagnostic, breakdowns, follow-up work, and PMs to a high standard of execution, ensuring all work is completed safely and in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical advice and support to fellow Maintenance Team members.
  • Ensure workmanship meets standards and tolerances, and test equipment prior to handover.
  • Identify correct parts and equipment for all planned and unplanned jobs.
  • Attend daily pre-start meetings for effective communication.
  • Provide written and verbal handover for incoming crews regarding maintenance plans and issues.
  • Liaise closely with Leading Hand, Underground Supervisors, and other key Stakeholders to organize priority breakdowns.
  • Ensure correct history is collated and effectively recorded.
  • Carry out, provide input to the development of, and comply with SWPs and JHAs, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated, and safety standards are met.
  • Organize all permits as required (e.g., isolations, confined space, and hot work permits).
  • Continuously review scheduled jobs to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Highlight equipment defects and issues effectively.
  • Practice rigorous cost management, avoiding rework and unnecessary use of parts/services.
  • Ensure all required documentation is completed correctly and submitted prior to the end of shift.
  • Ensure all safety-related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements, including Hazard IDs, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Other duties as required.
