About The Position

The Mobile Field Data Collector must safely drive and obtain meter reading data utilizing the mobile data collector unit. Operate computerized and handheld units, accurately obtain manual meter readings when necessary. May occasionally perform encoder receiver transmitter (ERT) meter maintenance, maintain and operate Company vehicle in accordance with Company safety standards and procedures and obey all traffic laws. Complete all work with an emphasis towards preventing accidents and injuries. May be required to respond to emergencies and implement Incident Command System (ICS).

Requirements

  • Pass all written tests and/or hands-on training, or simulations as required for this job classification; this includes all the covered task modules for Operator Qualification
  • Qualify in all covered tasks in their classification and satisfy all applicable requirements under State and Federal law
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and/or other special licenses/certifications
  • Successfully complete all aspects of required training
  • Behave in a manner that does not threaten or impair the safety of oneself or others
  • Be able to wear a complete company-issued uniform
  • Be able to wear and use all personal protective safety equipment as operating conditions dictate
  • Be able to be contacted and respond for emergency duty when on-call
  • Respond to base location or emergency site within one hour or as division operational needs dictate, subject to Division VP approval, when on-call
  • Be available to work overtime, shift work or a staggered workweek including recognized
  • Be able to work in another location, district, or department
  • Be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and may be exposed to natural gas during the course of work
  • Be able to safely contend with dogs and insects, carry items, use a monocular, and work with short deadlines
  • Be able to successfully manage conflicts and deal with angry customers, interact with the public and use tact and diplomacy when interacting with internal/external customers
  • Comply with company rules of general conduct, company policies and procedures and maintain an acceptable level of performance standards
  • Possess working knowledge of both the ERT programming handheld and the mobile data collector

Responsibilities

  • Drive routes utilizing the mobile data collector unit to obtain meter reading data
  • Assign and load Automated Meter Reading (AMR) routes
  • Work with various computer systems and software
  • Assist with sequencing new accounts in the computerized routing software
  • Occasionally obtain accurate manual meter reads, update instructions and report any abnormal operating conditions in the field in accordance with company policies, practices, and procedures
  • Assist in emergency response and preparation of emergency relight cards
  • May perform meter turn offs
  • Perform ERT meter maintenance
  • Perform duties in a manner that is in compliance with Company, local, state and federal regulations, safety and emergency practices and procedures
  • Perform all duties in a safe and courteous manner that promotes both good internal and external customer relations
  • Complete all documentation in a thorough and appropriate manner
  • Report accidents or property damage and/or loss to management immediately
  • Train others as required
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
  • Safely operate a motor vehicle for multiple consecutive hours each day
  • Review and interpret company facility map
