Reporting directly to Skeena’s Health & Safety Manager, the Mobile Equipment & Safety Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality equipment training, including instruction on standard operating procedures (SOPs) and various pieces of mobile equipment. This ensures the competency and professional development of equipment operators, while also maximizing equipment utilization and enhancing production safety. The Mobile Equipment & Safety Trainer will also provide essential regulatory safety training, such as fall protection and confined space training.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in mining, construction, and/or drilling,
  • Experience in delivering training packages, utilizing learning theories/styles appropriate to the workforce,
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite and audio/visual presentation equipment,
  • In-depth knowledge of the safe operation of standard open pit heavy equipment in a mining environment
  • Exhibits a high degree of responsibility for confidential matters
  • Detail oriented with excessive attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective team player who can jump in wherever is needed
  • Strong interpersonal and reasoning skills, with proven problem-solving abilities
  • Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently as well as with others

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Trainer or relevant teaching certifications (e.g., MIHR CMCP Evaluator, Train the trainer certification) is an asset
  • Valid open pit Shift boss Certificate is considered an asset
  • Adult training experience in relevant fields is considered an asset
  • Operating knowledge of Health, Safety and Reclamation Code for Mines in BC,
  • Safety Certifications, such as Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, and others are considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage in safety initiatives, toolbox meetings, hazard identification, and incident investigations to promote a safe workplace.
  • Deliver mandatory safety training, including orientations, fall protection, confined space entry, and other specialized courses.
  • Promote and sustain a strong safety culture across all levels of the organization.
  • Deliver training and coaching to operators on the safe and efficient operation of mobile equipment through classroom instruction and fieldwork.
  • Assist in the scheduling, organization, and coordination of training sessions, including venue booking, equipment preparation, and logistical support.
  • Support the onboarding process for new hires, ensuring they are properly trained and integrated into their roles.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing competency assessments of equipment operators.
  • Evaluate operator capabilities and provide constructive feedback to operators, supervisors, and superintendents.
  • Develop and implement individualized training action plans for operators needing further education or skill development.
  • Maintain accurate and accessible records of training and competency assessments.
  • Manage training data within the Learning Management System (LMS), including course creation, user updates, and generating reports to track progress.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by supporting the development of innovative training programs and computer-based learning modules.
  • Provide regular feedback to Mine Operations supervisors regarding the effectiveness of training programs and any logistical concerns.
  • Collaborate with the Mine Operations team to ensure training aligns with production goals and operational efficiency.
  • Perform additional duties and projects as required by the company.
