About The Position

Louisiana State University of Alexandria is seeking a Mobile Equipment Operator 1 or 2. This role involves operating various types of mobile equipment to perform transportation, maintenance, or construction tasks. The university is a publicly supported institution providing undergraduate education to the citizens of Central Louisiana and is part of the LSU System.

Requirements

  • For Mobile Equipment Operator 1: No experience or training required.
  • For Mobile Equipment Operator 2: One year of experience in mobile equipment operations.
  • Ability to operate field tractors with power ratings up to and including 52 horsepower (Operator 1) or over 52 horsepower (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate field tractors with gang mowers up to eight feet across (Operator 1) or over eight feet across or slope mower (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate dump trucks with rated capacity of six yards or less (Operator 1) or over 6 yards (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate vans and stake-body or flatbed trucks with load ratings over one ton and up to four tons (Operator 1) or over 4 tons (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate buses with 12 to 25 passenger capacity (Operator 1) or over 25 passenger capacity (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate forklifts with lifting capacity over 10,000 lbs. or lift height over 12 feet (Operator 1).
  • Ability to operate steel wheel rollers.
  • Ability to operate auxiliary equipment such as asphalt kettle, mud jack, concrete mixer (over two bag capacity), air compressor, jack-hammer.
  • Ability to operate front end-loaders and dump trucks in the maintenance and repair of railroad tracks.
  • Ability to operate weed-eaters, edgers, blowers, and additional handheld power equipment.
  • Ability to operate commercial mowers.
  • Ability to operate tractors to pick up trash.
  • Ability to operate golf carts for mail delivery.
  • Ability to operate trucks with trailers for hauling materials.
  • Ability to operate winch trucks, A frame trucks, aerial back lift trucks, pole trucks, and/or trailer (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate sign trucks (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate BOB-CAT tractors (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate garbage or trash trucks with hydraulic loader or compactor (Operator 2).
  • Ability to operate slurry machines, asphalt tank car heaters (Operator 2).
  • Ability to perform user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order.
  • Must have relevant experience and education on application.
  • Background check is required for hire.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mobile equipment such as tractors, dump trucks, vans, stake-body trucks, flatbed trucks, buses, forklifts, steel wheel rollers, auxiliary equipment (asphalt kettle, mud jack, concrete mixer, air compressor, jack-hammer), front end-loaders, and equipment for railroad track maintenance.
  • Transport patients, students, workers, or other persons between locations.
  • Perform minor repairs and user maintenance on equipment to keep it in good working order.
  • Provide guidance to and oversee work of lower graded operators and laborers.
  • Operate and maintain lawn equipment, including commercial mowers, weed-eaters, edgers, and blowers.
  • Transport trash from campus buildings to dumpsters.
  • Pick up and deliver campus mail.
  • Perform mechanical work on equipment, including inspections and oil changes.
  • Operate trucks with trailers for hauling materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Operate equipment with higher power ratings and more complicated operating characteristics (for Operator 2).
  • Operate dump trucks with rated capacity over 6 yards (for Operator 2).
  • Operate cargo vans and/or stake body or flatbed trucks with ratings over 4 tons (for Operator 2).
  • Operate buses with over 25 passenger capacity (for Operator 2).
  • Operate winch trucks, A frame trucks, aerial back lift trucks, pole trucks, and/or trailer (for Operator 2).
  • Operate sign trucks (for Operator 2).
  • Operate BOB-CAT tractors (for Operator 2).
  • Operate garbage or trash trucks with hydraulic loader or compactor (for Operator 2).
  • Perform incidental repair and construction tasks such as installation of guard rail, fencing, fender systems, and cabling at moveable bridges and other structures (for Operator 2).
  • Operate auxiliary equipment such as slurry machines and asphalt tank car heaters (for Operator 2).
