The primary function of this position is to operate heavy equipment for the purposes of road maintenance and construction. This position is located in District 62, Unit 776 of the Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 2. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties with minimal supervision and able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives.

Requirements

  • No experience or training is required.
  • Class D, Chauffeur’s License will be required upon appointment for Mobile Equipment Operator 1.
  • Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment for Mobile Equipment Operator 2.
  • Class A, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) will be required upon appointment for Mobile Equipment Operator 1/Heavy.
  • Reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy and specialized equipment used in road and bridge maintenance
  • Assist with construction, repair, and upkeep of highways and bridges
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance
  • Support traffic control, cleanup, and emergency response activities
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Perform physical tasks such as lifting, loading materials, and using hand and power tools
  • Assist or guide lower-level operators as needed

Benefits

  • Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00 /hour for every hour worked.
  • 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
