About The Position

Hendrickson Fleet is hiring a full-time Road Service Diesel Mechanic in Islandia, New York. The role is for an experienced technician who works independently to troubleshoot and repair diesel equipment and help customers get commercial trucks and trailers back into service. The position responds to roadside breakdowns and emergency calls, performs on-site repairs and preventive maintenance, and maintains accurate service documentation. Compensation is listed as $80,000–$120,000 per year, with pay based on experience and technical skills.

Requirements

At least 2 years of diesel mechanic or heavy-duty truck repair experience.
Hands-on knowledge of diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, and related truck components.
Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work with an iPad for documentation.
Valid driver's license and applicable medical certification.
Own mechanic's tools appropriate for the job.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Availability for overtime, on-call rotations, and emergency roadside calls as needed.
Strong communication skills and commitment to safe, professional workmanship.

Responsibilities

Respond to roadside breakdowns and emergency service calls.
Diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, suspensions, hydraulics, and trailer components.
Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and on-site repairs.
Use diagnostic tools and technical knowledge to identify problems and determine effective repair solutions.
Communicate repair updates, parts needs, and service recommendations to dispatch and management.
Complete repair orders, service reports, and maintenance documentation accurately.
Maintain tools, equipment, and the assigned service vehicle.
Follow safety procedures and applicable DOT requirements.
