About The Position

This role is for a Mobile Diesel Technician Level 3 responsible for performing repairs and maintenance on trucks and trailing equipment. The technician will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in diagnosing and repairing various vehicle systems, including diesel engines, powertrains, electrical systems, HVAC, steering, electronics, brakes, suspension, and after-treatment devices. The position also involves performing preventive maintenance, reconditioning equipment, and road testing vehicles. The technician will work independently, mentor others, and ensure compliance with DOT standards and company procedures. The role requires proficiency with diagnostic software, computer systems, and various hand and power tools, including welding equipment. The technician will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area and accurately documenting all transactions within the maintenance system.

Requirements

  • 4 years practical experience with tractor trailer maintenance required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrated customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Expert understanding of fleet maintenance policies, DOT standards and industry practices.
  • Organized with the ability to deal with multiple activities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand and power tools) required.
  • Clean MVR required.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communication skills. Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and written, and can read and understand English.
  • Demonstrated ability to recommend continuous improvement ideas and actions.
  • Results orientated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Ability to work in non-climate-controlled conditions required.
  • Willingness to travel for training.
  • Must have own tools (hand and pneumatic) sufficient to do any job that is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational / Technical or certification preferred.
  • Able to operate service truck preferred.
  • Specialized training and experience in the diagnosis/troubleshooting of major components (engines, transmissions, differentials), OEM training courses required (FRTL or INTL), ASE Certification preferred, and 608/609 certifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with all safety and best practices and follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the repair and diagnosis of diesel engines, power train (differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, wheel ends), electrical systems (starters, alternators, lights), HVAC systems, steering systems, electronics (ECM's, ECU's, sensors), engine bolt-on items (turbos, fan clutches, cooling system), brake systems (ABS & air disk brakes), suspension systems (spring and air), tire issues, and after-treatment devices (DPF and DOC).
  • Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance, and complete vehicle diagnosis.
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services on truck and trailing equipment.
  • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment for "trade-ins" and prepare new equipment for delivery.
  • Perform welding (mig, tig) in non-standard situations and on varying materials (AU and steel).
  • Utilize advanced skills with diagnostic software for Detroit DD15 engines, and DEF/after treatment repairs.
  • Identify and perform warrantable repairs and document on repair order.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety.
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engine, transmissions and differentials and fifth wheels, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components etc.
  • Provide directions and repair instructions and mentor other technicians as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT standards and properly document work completed.
  • Enter and process all transactions within the maintenance system.
  • Assist with fleet analyses, action development and stances.
  • Complete or assist with miscellaneous projects as assigned.
