About The Position

Cox Fleet is a leading provider of on-site mobile maintenance and repair services nationwide for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. They also service customers through over 50 nationwide service centers offering accident repair, painting, refurbishment, and heavy mechanical repair. Supported by a 24/7 in-house call-center, they provide scheduled and unscheduled maintenance services to fleets anywhere, anytime. This Mobile Diesel Technician II position is a dedicated on-site role, not for emergency roadside repairs. The technician will be responsible for certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, aluminum and chem-lite work, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework. This role is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs, acting as a lead on job sites and a consultant for customers.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field. (Alternatively, any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 3 years’ experience; or 7 years’ experience in a related field)
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • Must be able to obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.
  • Must be able to obtain 608/609 certification within eighteen (18) months.
  • Must be able to successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
  • A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining until its expiration may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical. If the DOT medical card has four (4) months or less of validity remaining, a DOT physical will be required.
  • Must be at least 21 years or older due to interstate operating authority commerce regulations.
  • Must hold a valid state-of-residence driver’s license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain their Driver Qualification File (DQF) and be eligible to drive in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
  • Must have a 3 YR MVR review.
  • Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods of time; ability to perform moderately heavy laboring work.
  • Ability to exert oneself physically over long periods of time without tiring, which may include performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to accurately judge which of several objects is closer or farther away from the observer, or the distance between an object and the observer.
  • Ability to communicate information (for example, facts, ideas, or messages) in a succinct and organized manner.
  • Engages in effective two-way communication with individuals and groups.
  • Ability to determine the type of tools and equipment needed.

Responsibilities

  • Always follows and complies with safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Independently manages parts inventory and equipment provided on company-issued service truck and performs periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintains and operates company-issued service vehicle, conducts safety checks, and pre-/post-trip inspections of vehicle.
  • Applies knowledge acquired through formal training or on-the-job experience to perform job duties, working with, understanding, and evaluating technical information.
  • Works with and listens effectively to clients and customers to assess their needs, providing information or assistance, resolving problems, or satisfying expectations.
  • Manages concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as to prioritizing work-related activities and time allocations.
  • Acts with integrity, demonstrating honesty and keeping commitments; behaves in a consistent manner, keeping sensitive information confidential and adhering to ethical and professional standards.
  • Performs scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT Inspections and follow-up repairs on trailers and equipment in a mobile/field environment.
  • Responds to call center dispatched unscheduled service and maintenance requests.
  • Uses hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Documents work according to company standards and uploads pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings observed on Repair Orders (“RO”) using a company-issued iOS device and proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately completes DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Works with a high degree of independence and manages own daily schedule.
  • Maintains a high level of productivity and works within or close to most Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtains parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
  • Communicates with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and/or discuss RO findings notes.
  • Performs all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Participates and completes all company-required safety training.
  • Establishes and maintains good working relationships with assigned customers and vendors.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Maintains company-issued service truck, conducts safety checks and daily pre/post-trip inspections.
  • Performs minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Adheres to company policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Remains up-to-date on safety protocols and procedures.
  • Diagnoses, adjusts, and performs repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem-lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, replacement of panels, body, and framework.
  • Identifies problems, determines accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
  • Inspects, tests, and listens to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Assists Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics.
  • Supports Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II in inventory reconciliation.
  • Advises Mobile Trailer Technicians I & II on technical issues.
  • Performs advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by Mobile Trailer Technicians I/II.
