About The Position

This role is in the Hematology Department and requires strong blood bank experience. The position supports and communicates laboratory initiatives and philosophies. Responsibilities include collecting, processing, and receiving specimens for analysis across all clinical laboratory departments. The role involves evaluating and solving problems related to specimen collection and processing for all age ranges. Participation in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures, including writing and revising technical procedures, is expected. The position requires performing complex laboratory procedures, recognizing and correcting deviations from expected results using scientific principles. Analyzing quality control data, making judgments on results, and taking appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision are key duties. The role also involves answering inquiries regarding test results, methodology, and factors influencing test results. Reviewing instrument indicators and temperature monitors for laboratory departments and maintaining self-competency in laboratory skills are also required.

Requirements

• Must be strong in blood bank experience!
• Bachelor’s degree (or Associates Degree for grandfathered personnel)
• CLS or MT (ASCP) or equivalent
• New MT Graduate must pass certification exam within 6 months of employment start date

Responsibilities

• Supports and communicates Laboratory initiatives and philosophies.
• Collects, Processes and Receives specimens (including blood, urine, fecal, body fluid) to be analyzed in all departments of the clinical laboratory.
• Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens of analysis of all age ranges.
• Participates in the evaluation of new techniques and procedures in the laboratory in terms of personnel, equipment, cost and establishment of reference intervals; writes and revises technical procedures.
• Performs complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
• Analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
• Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity and sensitivity, and specific factors that influence test results.
• Reviews all instrument indicators and temperature monitors for laboratory departments.
• Responsible for maintaining self-competency in laboratory skills.
