About The Position

Individuals are responsible to perform diagnostic and analytic testing on human specimens to produce sound, reliable data to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients. The role involves working in one or more laboratory disciplines under the supervision of a department manager, supervisor, senior technologist, or delegated in-charge individual. Employees must demonstrate competencies specific to the populations served. The position requires the ability to operate and perform basic computer programs for documentation and record keeping, and to understand and participate in all aspects of clinical laboratory testing: pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical. Anticipating and maintaining required inventory (supplies, reagents, etc.) to ensure uninterrupted testing is crucial. The role demands the ability to work under specific time constraints and communicate effectively verbally and in writing at all levels. Employees are expected to reflect a positive attitude, abide by Bronson's Standards and Plan for Excellence, and follow all laboratory established policies and procedures. Demonstrating responsibility for instrument operation and preventative maintenance, troubleshooting equipment problems, and executing and evaluating quality control and quality assurance procedures are key. Performing, validating, interpreting, documenting, and reporting laboratory test results, as well as performing and documenting internal and external proficiency testing, are essential. The ability to identify and resolve problems that may adversely affect results is required. Assisting in training new staff and students, participating in Laboratory Quality Program activities, and potentially altering start time, shift, department(s), and/or site based on patient care needs are also part of the role. For Point of Care specific duties, this includes performing training of non-lab testing personnel, conducting competency assessments, managing and supporting hospital units with supply inventory, and operating computer middleware programs for analyzer interfaces, personnel management, and test result management.
