About The Position

The Multilingual Learner (MLL) Coordinator at Mevers School of Excellence is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing comprehensive language instruction programs for multilingual learners. This role ensures that all MLL students receive equitable access to high-quality instruction aligned with South Carolina Department of Education standards, WIDA English Language Development Standards, and federal Title III requirements. The MLL Coordinator provides leadership in program implementation, compliance, instructional support, and stakeholder engagement to promote academic achievement and English language proficiency for all multilingual learners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, Bilingual Education, or a related field required
  • Valid South Carolina teaching certification with ESOL/ELL add-on certification or eligibility to obtain required endorsement.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with multilingual learners in an educational setting
  • Strong knowledge of WIDA English Language Development Standards, ACCESS for ELLs, and federal Title III requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze student data and use it to inform instruction and program decisions.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, families, staff, and community members.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Multilingual Learner (MLL) program across all assigned schools.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local requirements, including Title III of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), South Carolina Department of Education regulations, and WIDA standards.
  • Oversee the identification, screening, placement, and reclassification of multilingual learners in accordance with state guidelines.
  • Coordinate and manage administration of required assessments, including English language proficiency assessments (e.g., ACCESS for ELLs).
  • Monitor student progress toward English language proficiency and academic achievement, using data to drive instructional decisions and program improvements.
  • Provide instructional leadership and coaching to teachers and staff on effective strategies for supporting multilingual learners, including sheltered instruction and differentiated instruction practices.
  • Plan and deliver ongoing professional development aligned with best practices in multilingual learner education.
  • Collaborate with school leaders, instructional staff, and support personnel to ensure integration of language development strategies across all content areas.
  • Facilitate communication and engagement with families of multilingual learners, including organizing meetings, providing translated resources when appropriate, and ensuring meaningful participation in the educational process.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student services, compliance, and reporting requirements.
  • Support grant management and program evaluation efforts related to multilingual learner services, including Title III funding where applicable.
  • Stay current on changes in laws, regulations, and best practices related to multilingual learner education and ensure program alignment.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
