About The Position

Evvy is a precision women’s health company focused on leveraging the vaginal microbiome to improve health outcomes across a woman's lifespan. They have developed a Vaginal Microbiome Test and an AI-powered personalized care platform, supported by a unique and extensive dataset. The company is seeking an experienced ML Tech Lead to build the next generation of diagnostic and prognostic products. This role involves leading a small ML team within R&D, transforming the company's microbiome data into predictive models, and improving the understanding, prediction, and treatment of women's health conditions. The position is hands-on, requiring leadership in both operational and technical aspects, with a focus on moving from research to validated, product-ready models. The ideal candidate will ensure model reliability, clinical meaningfulness, and readiness for product integration, while also establishing structure, setting timelines, and managing priorities with speed and rigor. The role is primarily in-person in NYC, with potential for remote work for an exceptional candidate.

Requirements

  • 6–9 years of experience in machine learning or data science.
  • Prior experience managing ML or research individual contributors at a company (academic advising alone is not sufficient).
  • Deep technical fluency to credibly review methods, models, and code without necessarily performing the building yourself.
  • A track record of helping technical teams ship on realistic timelines, translating ambitious science into credible plans.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with product, clinical, and engineering teams.
  • Comfort communicating with non-technical stakeholders, framing complex methodological tradeoffs as clear product or business decisions.
  • High agency and low ego: ability to move fast, make decisions with imperfect information, fully own outcomes, and prioritize team success.

Nice To Haves

  • Microbiome experience.
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Diagnostics experience.

Responsibilities

  • Set and hold the technical quality bar across the team's work, reviewing methods, models, and code to identify validation gaps, design issues, or assumptions.
  • Partner with the team to build credible timelines and roadmaps, helping scientists estimate timelines, plan dependencies, and surface risks early.
  • Co-own the ML team's roadmap with the Co-founder & CSO.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and growth of Evvy's ML team, including running 1:1s, performance reviews, hiring, and establishing the operating cadence.
  • Act as the translator between the ML team and other company departments (clinical, product, engineering, leadership), ensuring clear communication about the team's activities, upcoming work, and risks.
  • Partner closely with product and engineering to transition models from prototype to shipped features, ensuring validation, performance monitoring, and documentation for deployment.
  • Help recruit, lead technical interviews, and onboard new ML scientists as the team scales.
  • Build the systems and rituals that enable a small science team to operate with the speed and accountability of a larger one.
