This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. As a Senior Project Engineer, you will report to the MK2 Program Operations Director and drive operational excellence and velocity for the MK2 team. You will act support the Operations Director to drive execution of various initiatives across the MK2 vehicle team. You will be accountable for the processes, metrics, tools, and business rhythms needed to manage and report product delivery status. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and attention towards safe and reliable spaceflight.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering field (avionics, aerospace, mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering; physics; or other major requiring engineering or manufacturing core courses).
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in designing/developing/supporting complex engineered products.
  • 5+ years of project management or system integration experience.
  • Solid experience working with multi-functional product development teams and external manufacturers.
  • Outstanding analytical, organization, and problem-solving skills with high levels of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing aerospace products across the entire production life cycle.
  • Experience with electronic product development tools: Primavera (P6), DOORS/DNG, CAD / Altium, CREO, Windchill.
  • Experience with budget and Cost Account Management such as EVM.
  • Experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, or similar experience working in vehicle integration and test.
  • Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle.
  • Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance systems.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, Databricks, Python, SQL, ChatGPT.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate implementation of program objectives throughout the product teams.
  • Providing technical guidance and support to the product development team, ensuring alignment with program objectives and quality standards
  • Communicate and support the execution of the vision, strategic goals, priorities, execution requirements, and performance across the MK2 organization.
  • Work closely with program management, engineering, supply chain, and production teams to integrate product development efforts.
  • Collaborate with Integrated Product Team leadership and external manufacturing partners to drive product lifecycle stages to mature production.
  • Translate design intent/goals in the context of various design teams' language as well as to the greater public/production.
  • Develop, automate, and release program metrics and dashboards with the data analytics team to establish and track metrics that enable program execution and strategic decision-making.
  • Maintain and routinely report performance to plan on schedule, resources, program/product cost, and technical performance metrics for program and company-level reviews.
  • Report overall program status and critical path items to management, executives, and the department for alignment.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with stakeholders, including program directors, product team managers, and EOL’s.
  • Coordinate with program leadership and stakeholders on reporting content, review, and approval.
  • Identify and resolve technical and operational challenges to ensure program success.
  • Identify and own projects and processes that improve overall program success and progress.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of product development processes, integration plans, and performance metrics.
  • Contribute content to Mk2 Lunar Lander program reporting rhythm and workflow.
  • Manage the product lifecycle, including Product Development and Qualification, New Product Introduction (NPI), sustaining production, and test support.
  • Manage the fleet of vehicles (both vehicles in build and active vehicles).
  • Work with Mk2 Lunar Lander Data Analytics to propose reporting metrics for process insight.
  • Drive process improvements to continuously improve program operations.
  • Drive process improvements to continuously improve program operation, cost, and schedules.
