About The Position

The Mixed Acuity Critical Care Charge Nurse is an entry-level management position responsible for coordinating care on designated shifts and providing leadership to unit staff in patient care. As a registered nurse, the charge nurse implements the nursing process for assigned patients across the age continuum, from infancy through geriatrics, and provides care within the parameters of the Kentucky Nurse Practice Act. The role promotes positive patient outcomes and quality of care, and supports change through involvement in unit-based and hospital shared-governance councils. The charge nurse applies critical thinking and appropriate nursing judgment guided by National Professional Nursing Standards, collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes, and serves as a role model through continuous professional development, teaching, and learning across the healthcare continuum. The Mixed Acuity Unit specializes in medical critical care and provides both critical care and telemetry training, with care spanning young adult through geriatric populations.
