About The Position

Our Mix Operator I is responsible for the packaging of finished products in bags. This role involves setting up and monitoring finished package weights to ensure bags conform to specifications, setting up packer scale weights, checking the precision of the check scale, and continually checking finished package weights throughout the run. The operator ensures product is bagged, sealed, and palletized neatly and orderly on structurally sound pallets. Responsibilities also include maintaining clean work areas, covering products to avoid contamination, emptying feed buckets, performing allergen cleans, identifying allergens using the company color coding system, and pulling samples for analysis. The role requires performing metal detector checks, keeping bags available and labeled, cleaning and sanitizing packing and loading areas, and feeding non-specification product back into the system for rework. Additionally, the Mix Operator I assists in training new personnel and organizes, wraps, and loads finished product using a pallet jack or forklift.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED preferred.
  • Follow all food, safety rules and regulations.
  • Understanding of basic principles of the BRC program and other food safety policies/procedures
  • Safety training is required and provided by the company in group settings, as well as individual computer-based training.
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills, multitask, able to read and write in English
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Available to work flexible hours, evenings, and weekends may be required.
  • Ability to utilize computers for data entry, recipe card retrieval, and label making.
  • Ability to use basic math to calculate ingredient amounts.
  • Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved oral HS Education or GED.
  • Work experience in a manufacturing setting is a plus.
  • Displays confidence on the packaging equipment and has completed the necessary skill level II testing.
  • Ability to maintain or exceed minimum packaging efficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and monitor finished package weights to ensure that bags conform to specifications.
  • Set up the packer scale weights prior to a run.
  • Check the precision of the check scale prior to the start of the run.
  • Continually check the finished package weights throughout the run.
  • Ensure that the finished product is bagged, sealed, and palletized in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion on structurally sound pallets.
  • Maintain clean work areas, including disposal of trash and cardboard at the end of shift.
  • Make sure all products in container(s) are covered to avoid contamination at the end of shift.
  • Feed buckets shall be emptied into designated containers daily.
  • Perform frequently scheduled allergen cleans in Mix Plant area, mixer and equipment.
  • Refer to and follow “Allergen Cleanup Procedures”.
  • Notify the QA Manager or Mix Supervisor for post cleaning inspection and documentation before startup of allergen free production run.
  • Identify all allergens using the company color coding system.
  • Properly use color coded utensils
  • Pull samples of product, both prior to packaging, and throughout the run, and run analysis on samples on equipment located in mill control room.
  • Perform Metal Detector checks on a scheduled basis set by the quality department and notify supervisor of any substandard conditions.
  • Pull samples prior to the run (or at the startup of packaging) to help ensure conformity to specifications.
  • Keep bags available and ready to be used, including bags labeled for special customers.
  • Attach labels to bags as necessary.
  • Clean and sanitize all packing and loading areas (including hopper area above packers).
  • Feed any product that did not meet specifications back into the system to rework.
  • Assist in the training of new and existing personnel in any packaging functions/positions.
  • Organize, wrap and load finished product as necessary by pallet jack or forklift.
