About The Position

The Mitchell Activity Center (MAC) is a hub for students, staff and faculty at Seattle Central College to gather, socialize, recreate, and exercise. In addition, the MAC serves as a rental space for both college affiliated groups and external rental groups. The Mitchell Activity Center Desk Attendant is a part-time temporary position for students. This position contributes to activities, events and daily operations of the Mitchell Activity Center. Duties include providing customer service to members and rental groups, monitoring spaces and enforcing building policies, using basic computer applications, and answering phone calls and questions about the center. Desk staff also help process and maintain equipment. Other duties may include referring students to additional assistance, opening and closing the facility, inventorying items, light cleaning tasks, setting up events and completing related projects. This part-time position is typically assigned 12-16 hours per week. Morning, afternoon, evening and weekend shifts are available.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in using office software, including email and Microsoft Teams.
  • Strong communication skills: ability to answer questions and problem solve when needed.
  • Ability to provide customer service to patrons and visitors.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and maintain positive and effective relationships with students and other employees.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promote equitable access and service to a diverse community.

Responsibilities

  • Provides welcoming, effective and timely service.
  • Answers basic informational and directional questions; refers users to appropriate employees as needed.
  • Performs daily tasks and assists with check-in and check-out processes and renewals; follows and explains Mitchell Activity Center policies.
  • Assists MAC users at the Front Desk, Game Room Desk, Locker Room Desk and/or Weight Room Desk with routine questions, such as equipment availability, room reservations, fitness schedules, building navigation, membership renewals, and waivers.
  • Verifies student accounts and lending eligibility.
  • Assists with distributing, receiving, tracking, and maintaining MAC equipment, such as basketballs, badminton supplies, lockers, board games, video games, billiard equipment, ping pong equipment and performs simple servicing of equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and contacts admin support as needed.
  • Maintains hourly head counts for spaces within the MAC.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
