About The Position

Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County (UGM-TC), founded in 1888, is a Christian organization dedicated to helping homeless women, men, and families by providing love, hope, respect, and a new beginning. UGM-TC offers a residency program funded by community generosity, aimed at helping individuals develop life skills to transition out of homelessness and become productive members of society. This position specifically works in a building for MEN ONLY and involves supporting the operations of the Overnight Shelter, Emergency Stabilization, and programs for unaccompanied men. The role is ideal for individuals with customer service experience who want to make a difference, particularly those with a background in hospitality or retail customer service leadership.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and children in an emergency shelter environment or long-term supportive housing program.
  • Demonstrates deep understanding of intergenerational trauma and poverty and its impact on adults and children.
  • Implements trauma informed de-escalation strategies and techniques focused on avoiding re-traumatization.
  • Demonstrates cultural competency through the ability to understand and effectively communicate with individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with UGM-TC employees across departments at all levels, students, and parents.
  • Ability to work with various computer applications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide check-in service and meet the needs of residents and guests.
  • Ensure the safety of UGM-TC facilities, employees, program participants, guests, and visitors.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to UGM-TC organizational and department specific Policies and Procedures.
  • Build safe, trusting, and respectful relationships with program participants and guests using a trauma-informed approach and exercising appropriate boundaries.
  • Protect the confidentiality, privacy, and dignity of program participants, guests, and visitors.
  • Collaborate with Courtesy Patrol to respond to emergency situations and provide timely crisis intervention.
  • Manage the phone system, demonstrating proper phone etiquette and protocols, and serving as a resource for guests.
  • Ensure cleanliness, order, and organization of the front desk area and lobby, and replenish front desk forms and documents.
  • Monitor for adherence to facility safety and security policies, including authorized access, and take appropriate actions for policy violations.
  • Continuously monitor courtyards, dorm floors, lobby areas, and all entry and exit points of the Cox and Scott Walker buildings.
  • Monitor for contraband through general observation and personal property searches, and conduct drug and alcohol screenings as per policy.
  • Scan program participants and guests in and out of the residential program and for services like meals.
  • Complete daily shift reports, review Communication Logs, and verbally brief incoming personnel.
  • Inventory, dispense, and store consumable items, including cleaning supplies.
  • Actively participate in assigned Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
  • Submit maintenance requests immediately upon observation or report of maintenance problems.
