About The Position

We are seeking a Mission Integrity Leader to lead a highly visible, Lab-wide function focused on Audit, Ethics, Internal Controls, and data science-enabled decision support within the Office of Laboratory Oversight (OLO). This role provides strategic direction, operational leadership, and technical guidance for a portfolio of activities that strengthen accountability, improve organizational performance, and support sound decision-making across the Laboratory. Reporting to the Office of Laboratory Oversight Deputy Director, this position is responsible for setting direction, priorities, and long-range objectives for all mission integrity functions. The role combines technical leadership, governance, and management responsibility across a complex portfolio with broad Laboratory impact. This position requires strong expertise in data science, analytics, data governance, internal controls, audit, and ethics, along with the ability to lead a team in a highly regulated, mission-driven environment. Depending on your assignment, this position may offer a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You may have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.

Requirements

  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Bachelor’s degree with specialization in data science, computer science, information systems, analytics, engineering, and/or accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience leading audit, ethics, internal controls, analytics, or related oversight functions in a complex, mission-driven, or highly regulated environment.
  • Expert-level technical and operational knowledge and application in data science, analytics, data engineering, data governance, or decision-support systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, set priorities, manage resources, and deliver high-impact outcomes.
  • Experience leading projects and portfolios with broad organizational impact.
  • Expert knowledge of audit practices, ethics programs, internal controls, governance, and accountability frameworks.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems, assess risk, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Expert written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience working with senior leaders and multidisciplinary stakeholders to influence decisions and improve outcomes.
  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and sound judgment.

  • Relevant professional certifications, such as CPA, CIA, CISA, CFE, CCEP, or CIGA or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the organization in setting strategy, priorities, and long-range objectives for institutional Audit, Ethics, Internal Controls, and data science-enabled technical decision support functions.
  • Direct a portfolio of highly visible and complex initiatives with Lab-wide impact.
  • Develop and champion governance frameworks, operating models, and performance measures that guide execution and sustain organizational effectiveness.
  • Lead the planning, execution, and continuous improvement of institutional Audit Reports, Internal Control products, and Ethics advisories.
  • Build and strengthen analytical capabilities, including data quality, dashboards, risk analytics, data visualization, process mining, artificial intelligence, and automation to improve oversight and decision support.
  • Provide technical and operational direction for work that informs leadership decisions, risk identification, and Lab-wide organizational performance.
  • Manage a team of professionals and supervisors with an approximate span of control of 14 total staff, including technical staff positions to deliver mission.
  • Assign work, allocate resources, manage priorities, and support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback.
  • Define methods and approaches to integrity work independently and with significant latitude.
  • Ensure work is reviewed through milestones and outcomes, exercising sound judgment within established policies.
  • Regularly partner with senior leaders, external partners, technical teams, and cross-functional stakeholders across the Laboratory to address complex issues and provide practical solutions.
  • Present technical findings, recommendations, and decision-support products to management and other stakeholders, including the LLNS Board of Governor’s Audit, Ethics & Assurance Committee.
  • Ensure that organization outputs influence Lab priorities, organizational effectiveness, and operational accountability.
  • Lead efforts that shape governance, oversight, and internal control practices across the Laboratory.
  • Participate in the Contractor Audit Executive Council (CAEC), a cross-DOE coordination and communication mechanism.
  • Foster a culture of integrity, collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
