Mission Critical Project Manager

Atoms•San Francisco, CA
•$150,000 - $214,000•Onsite

About The Position

Atoms is building the machines that power the next era of progress. Over the last decade, software has transformed the digital world. But the physical world, where food is made, minerals are mined, goods are moved, and industries are run, remains far less intelligent, far less efficient, and far more constrained. We’re changing that. Atoms builds Physical AI— real-world robots for the industries that move civilization forward, starting with food, mining, and transport. Our systems are designed to understand, predict, and control the real world with precision, turning complex physical operations into something more reliable, more scalable, and more productive. This work requires more than robotics. It requires deep integration across hardware, software, AI, operations, manufacturing, and real estate. We don’t just build machines in a lab. We deploy them into real environments, operate them, learn from them, and improve them until they work at scale. We are roboticists, engineers, operators, and builders. We believe the next great technology companies will not only transform information, but the physical systems that shape everyday life. If you want to work on hard problems with real-world impact, join us.

Requirements

  • 7+ years delivering complex construction or infrastructure projects, with meaningful data center or mission-critical experience. Experience working for a general contractor strongly preferred.
  • Strong technical and field understanding of MEP systems, constructability, sequencing, subcontractor coordination, and means and methods.
  • Experience delivering projects through utility energization, equipment startup, commissioning, and turnover.
  • Strong command of critical-path scheduling, cost management, procurement, and change management.
  • Ability to read and challenge drawings, specifications, schedules, estimates, submittals, RFIs, and technical proposals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently, make sound decisions with incomplete information, and solve difficult problems under aggressive timelines.
  • Comfortable operating without an established playbook and turning lessons learned into repeatable standards and processes.
  • Clear, concise communicator who surfaces risks early and comes prepared with solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Procore, Bluebeam Revu, and scheduling software experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Own data center projects from design through construction, energization, commissioning, and turnover, with accountability for cost, schedule, scope, quality, and risk.
  • Help build Atoms’ data center development and construction program from the ground up, establishing the standards, processes, and playbook we’ll use as the program scales.
  • Apply a first-principles approach to how we design and build. Challenge industry conventions, understand why things are done the way they are, and find better ways to deliver.
  • Drive project execution and understand the critical path. Identify risks early and solve problems before they impact key milestones.
  • Lead coordination across electrical, mechanical, structural, controls, fire/life safety, and architectural scopes.
  • Drive utility coordination, permitting, inspections, energization, and commissioning.
  • Manage consultants, general contractors, specialty trades, equipment vendors, and commissioning providers, holding teams accountable for performance.
  • Own procurement and delivery of critical and long-lead equipment, including transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS, and cooling systems.
  • Review and challenge designs, schedules, estimates, change orders, and technical proposals. Identify gaps and drive decisions rather than simply administering the process.
  • When problems arise, determine the root cause, develop options, recommend a path forward, and drive it to resolution.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance (multiple plans, incl. HSA options).
  • Company-paid life and disability insurance (short- and long-term).
  • Voluntary insurance: accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity.
  • Optional supplemental life insurance for self, spouse, and children.
  • Pet insurance discount.
  • 401(k).
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts (Healthcare, Dependent Care, Commuter)
  • Discretionary vacation days
  • 8 paid holidays per year
  • Paid sick time
  • Paid Bereavement leave
