Mission Critical Project Manager (MEP)
About The Position
Bala Consulting Engineers, a 200-person engineering firm with offices in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Baltimore, and Washington D.C., is seeking an experienced Mission Critical Project Manager. This role involves leading select Mission Critical projects, mentoring staff, and contributing to the expansion of the firm's capabilities in this sector. The ideal candidate will have a passion for client relationships, technical expertise in MEP systems for mission critical facilities, and the ability to develop new business. The Project Manager will report to the Director of Operations and will be responsible for directing daily operations, supervising budgeting and cost analysis, and identifying areas for improvement. This is a full-time role with a hybrid work arrangement (four days in office, one day remote) and offers opportunities for advancement.
Requirements
- At least ten years of experience in engineering consulting or an adjacent field (construction, owner’s representative, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or another relevant field from a 4-year accredited university.
- Strong technical writing skills.
- Knowledge of building codes.
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
- Knowledge of industry best practices and the latest technologies for MEP systems design of Mission Critical Facilities.

Responsibilities
- Serve as a project manager on select projects in the Mission Critical Sector, including newbuilds, renovations, fit-outs, and infrastructure upgrades.
- Act as a client-facing representative, participating in RFP site visits and proposal writing.
- Manage all project functions, including scope responsibilities, client management, scheduling, and financials.
- Vet company processes and provide input for improvement.
- Assist project managers across all company locations.
- Develop a core group of assistant project managers capable of independent work.
- Spend most of the time in the local office area, with travel to other Bala offices encouraged as needed.
- Undertake national travel to project sites infrequently on an as-needed basis.
- Serve as a technical resource for staff.
- Manage and schedule quality control reviews to reinforce technical lessons and company processes.
- Complete internal peer reviews and provide input in multi-discipline page turns across all offices.
- Manage and schedule page turns prior to all major project deliverables.
- Provide input utilizing sound engineering principles.
- Review workforce projections and determine how they relate to staffing.
- Identify strategies to manipulate design schedules to align with staffing.
- Drive ownership, accountability, and culture throughout the company.
- Interact with partners and executives to further the firm's growth and quality agenda.
- Identify potential business opportunities.
- Work with the leadership team to develop fees on complex projects.
- Develop and maintain client relationships.
- Grow the volume and footprint of the office market sectors.
